2017 Fall Apparel Preview

This past August, I had the opportunity to attend the PGA Fashion Show held annually at the Venetian in Las Vegas.  Although there is an equipment demo day attached to this event, apparel remains their primary focus.  The experience provides an opportunity for me to meet individually with several apparel brands and learn about the latest trends in golf’s soft lines.  I take what I’ve learned from the show back to Minneapolis and construct a fashion preview for the fall and winter season.  All for you!

The Fall 2017 preview is the inaugural edition for, Leah Gruber, the latest addition to our apparel team.  She’s onboard to present the women’s side of the industry.  Leah is a sports and fitness model from Minneapolis but also works with Platinum Tees in Las Vegas.  She has recently taken up the game and is already fairly competitive.  We’re excited to have her onboard, and look forward to having her assist in expanding our content to the women’s side of game.

This season, the brands have focused much of their attention to trousers.  I like saying trousers because it makes me sound more sophisticated.  With legs like mine, it’s hard to cover them up, but fall temperatures in Minnesota can get frosty.  Anyway, back to the trousers, basically, the brands are taking tech fabric pants and designing them to look like wool pants.  What’s old is new once again in golf, and your legs are sure to thank you for mixing it up.

A special thanks to the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, MN, for hosting the Fall 2017 Apparel Preview.  This is going to be a special place in the Twin Cities and we look forward to its opening in the spring of 2018.  An additional thank you to our talented photographer, Beth Coburn from bc fotos for giving these images life.  So, have a look around, and let us know what you think of the season’s latest.

Adidas Golf
The simplistic three bar logo from Adidas is probably one of the most recognized logo in sportswear worldwide.  Introduced at the 2015 PGA Show in Orlando, their Boost shoes remain some of the most comfortable shoes in the game.  Although they have separated from the TaylorMade brand, Adidas remains strongly positioned in the game.

Chase 54
Our friend, Kara Hover, from Fairway Styles, has joined the Chase 54 team and was the curator for these looks for Fall.  The Era pants have got to be one of my favorite pieces for the season, and provides that crisp, tailored look.  They are available in difficult to find waist sizes of 33/35 as well.   Chase golf’s ultimate round of a birdie on every hole for a 54 wearing, Chase 54.

Greg Norman Collection
When you’ve spent 331 weeks as the number one golfer in the world, your name or logo will command respect no matter what it is on.  Since 1992, that colorful iconic shark logo has been embroidered on golf apparel.  Over the past 25 years, the Greg Norman collection has evolved into a respected brand that has stood the test of time in a competitive market.

Puma Golf
Puma has stood the test of time in my golf and leisure wardrobe.  Although I cannot present empirical testing to back this up, I have found Puma to be among the most durable apparel brands in golf.  This season, Puma is introducing Evoknit, which features seamless, body-mapped ventilation with stretch construction.  The result is unrestricted range of motion in your polo.  As long as Grant Kundson is designing their golf shoes, they’ll remain among the most comfortable in golf.

Swannies Apparel Co.
Let’s face it, it’s a difficult and long road starting up a golf apparel business.  How can you differentiate your brand from what is already available in the market.  Established in 2015 in my hometown of Minneapolis, Swannies started their business placing spikes on slides.  They’ve slowly added to their portfolio and have found their way into several pro shops in Minnesota.  Their offerings are muted, trendy, and you won’t need a loan to add selections to your portfolio.  Men only for now, women’s coming soon!

Pocket Polo: $54
Quarter-Zip: $59

Tourney Golf Apparel
If you played forged blades in the 1950’s, chances are they were designed by Tourney Golf.  Tharanco Lifestyles LLC (Greg Norman Collection) has brought the brand back to life again with classic designs and modern fits.  What’s more, Tourney isn’t going to break the bank with their modestly priced offerings, probably among the cheapest MSRP in golf today.  Love the subtle logos and fit, they’ve done a nice job with this resurgence of a classic name in the game.
