REVIEW: Bridgestone Tour B Golf Balls

by T_Fity

“New means New, not just Newer!”

All golf balls go thru a life cycle where each version is changed to produce a Newer model based on previous success. Bridgestone is no exception, making changes to the very popular and highly successful Tour B330 models. This time, Bridgestone started from the beginning to come up with the “New” Tour B golf ball line up.  Continuing with the idea of two models based on the level of golfer, there are 4 “New” models in the Tour B line up.  Not only is this a “New” golf ball, there is a “New” way of thinking involved with how you would choose which golf ball is best for your game based on Feel, Accuracy, and Distance instead of swing speed and spin with the Tour B330 models. Once again, I put my money where my mouth is and purchased one dozen of each New Bridgestone Tour B golf ball models and started my research.

All 4 Tour B models incorporate proprietary technology in construction giving players the best possible benefit from each feature.
  • Gradational Core — Added distance and forgiveness comes from the Gradational Compression core. Higher initial ball speed and lower side spin from the Gradational Compression core help give you an advantage on the course.
  • SlipRes Urethane Cover — Added feel and control come from the soft SlipRes cover formulation. The added spin control comes from increased friction and feel thanks to the proprietary SlipRes urethane cover.
  • Dual Dimple — Extra distance and enhanced aerodynamics are a result of the Dual Dimple technology. The added distance comes from a more efficient ball trajectory thanks to less drag when the ball is in flight.
  • Seamless Cover — Consistent flight and performance are a result of the proprietary Seamless Cover Technology. The perfect performance and aerodynamic balance comes from a manufacturing processes that creates a perfectly balanced dimple pattern.

I find the wedge is commonly the most overlooked club in the bag. Wedges are critical to scoring and there needs to be a balance of Feel, Accuracy and Distance.  Bridgestone has captured all three of these elements in the New Tour B X models.  Based on testing, there was only about a 200-400 rpm difference in either the driver or 7 iron.  All models performed around the greens like you would expect from a tour level golf ball.  I did find the RX models to have a bit more jump and a little less check spin.  The Tour B X and XS models felt a bit softer, even comparing them to the Tour B330 model.
