Fujikura Speeder, Pro and Speeder Pro Shafts

“The World’s Best Performance Golf Shafts?”
I’m sure it didn’t take a room full of marketing wizards to come up the slogan Fujikura uses to describe their place in the golf shaft business. The reality is they just used the plain truth. For years Fujikura has been the leading choice of shafts for the best golfers in the world. Take the recent winner of the 2016 U.S. Open. He used the Speeder Evolution to hit drives that looked effortless and traveled a country mile. With the victories at the Quicken Loans National and World Golf Championship in Akron Ohio, Fujikura put 5 wins in a row together on the PGA Tour. I wanted to see how the Fujikura shafts line up compared in both data and play, so I put them to the test for a quick comparison.
(Top) Speeder 757 Evolution – features Mid-Launch and Mid-Spin (Middle) Pro 73 Tour Spec (TS) – designed with a stiffened mid and tip section for Mid-Launch and Mid-Spin (Bottom) Speeder Pro 76 Tour Spec (TS) – designed to provide greater feel with Low-Launch and Low-Spin

For me any piece of equipment in golf comes down to three basics – Looks – Feel – Performance.

Looks –
No matter which shaft I was playing golf with, those around me or playing in my group wanted to know what shaft I had in my driver. The looks on all three of the shafts are stellar. The blue and red of the Speeder 757 Evolution stick out and make people take notice. The Pro 73 TS has a contrast effect with the black and white that shows off the brand name very well. And the Speeder Pro TS takes a subtle approach to letting others know you are using the best performance shaft on the market.

Feel –
There is a marked difference in the feel between the three shafts. I prefer to play something with weight and a smooth load and unload in the swing. For that feel, the Speeder 757 Evolution gave me the results I favor in a driver shaft. The Pro 73 TS had the harshest feel, with a stiffened mid and tip section, I can understand why it didn’t come across feeling as soft as the other two speeder shafts. That isn’t to say I won’t be playing the Pro 73 TS, it just isn’t the smooth feel of the 757. The Speeder Pro TS was in the middle in terms of feel, but it was too heavy for my taste.

Performance –
I can rave all I want about the looks and feel of a golf shaft, but the true test for any golfer is how it performs. I hit 10 premium golf balls with each shaft using the same driver head in a standard setting and driver length of 45 inches.
