This was my personal experience with them and what I think overall about their feel and performance!

Mossimo Giannulli, founder of G/Fore, has described the DNA of brand as disruptive.  At the heart there is a spirit of elegance and luxury in every piece but with that comes an element of rebellion.  As an avid golfer, Giannulli is said to test every shoe before it launches to market.  On the PGA Tour, G/Fore shoes are worn by Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson, just to name a few.  At the games highest level, elegance and luxury are useless if the shoes do not perform on golf’s biggest stage.

Over the past couple years, I have seen G/Fore migrate into the pro shops of some of the private and higher end daily fee courses in my area.  If a brand performs, word seems to spread among members.  Like tour players, the 12 handicap is also looking for that unicorn that makes this game we love a little more enjoyable.  As noted by a few of the club professions around town, the G/Fore shoes seem to be doing just that.

On August 26th of this year, I was scrolling Instagram and noticed a post by G/Fore indicating “Wides have arrived” in a short video that included some styles of their Gallivanter model.  As a guy with a wide foot, I require, of course, wide shoes.  For the sake of comfort, the minimum I require is EE however, I prefer 4E if available.  If you are not a wide shoe guy, you are probably unaware that not many golf shoes are readily available in wide options.  When they are, it is usually one to two specific models in their entire line with one to two color choices.  Finding a shoe in the right style, color, and performance aspects you desire is challenging if you have the wide-foot curse like I do.  Needless to say, I was ecstatic to see one of my favorite brands in the game is [finally] offering wide shoe options.

At this time, G/Fore is only offering select versions of the Gallivanter in wide (EE).  As such, I placed an order for the Saddle Gallivanter.  Just like mainstream fashion, golf fashion seems to be cyclical as well and the timeless saddle shoe seems to be making a comeback as well.

If you remember back to some of the classic saddle golf shoes, the sole was very heavy like a dress shoe.  Out of the box, the first thing you’ll notice is how lightweight the G/Fore Gallivanter is compared to what you expect a classic leather golf shoe to feel like.  I also noticed how soft the pebble grain leather is to the touch that is 100% waterproof.  They have the look and feel of a luxury classic golf show.  However, the aesthetics of the shoe is where the “classic” ends and performance begins for the Gallivanter.

Once your foot enters the footbed of the Gallivanter and you take your first few steps, you would think you have an athletic show on as opposed to the fashion shoe it looks like.  It’s got it all that the classics did not, moisture wicking properties, a soft sock like anti-microbial mesh liner, and a stepped insole that feels like you’re getting a foot massage while you walk.

On the turf, the Gallivanter incorporates the G/Fore multi cleat system.  Although this system is “spikeless” it has been a proven design of stability and traction utilized on the PGA Tour.  Having worn the multi cleat system both on and off the golf course in the past, I can attest to the not only the performance of this cleat, but the longevity and durability of the materials used.  The spikes just to not seem to lose their grip or traction.

On the [wide] feet and on the course, the Gallivanter is one of the most comfortable performance golf shoes I’ve every worn.  Right out of the box, the Gallivanter’s require no break-in period.  This would have been virtually unheard of 20 years ago with the classics of the past.  Walking 18 holes with these is as comfortable as any other spikeless design on the market.  This combined with the stability of the rugged multi-cleat, you’d be hard pressed to find a better looking performance golf shoe.On the [wide] feet and on the course, the Gallivanter is one of the most comfortable performance golf shoes I’ve every worn.  Right out of the box, the Gallivanter’s require no break-in period.  This would have been virtually unheard of 20 years ago with the classics of the past.  Walking 18 holes with these is as comfortable as any other spikeless design on the market.  This combined with the stability of the rugged multi-cleat, you’d be hard pressed to find a better looking performance golf shoe.

Summary

These are on par for price with other comparable premium products from other golf shoe lines.  The quality construction, materials, performance, and comfort render the Gallivanter one of the shoes to beat in the all around space.  The Gallivanter Saddle comes in midnight blue (shown) and brown.  If you desire the timeless styling of this classic shoe design the Gallivanter should be at the top of your wide shoe list.

Note: The Gallivanter fits relatively true to size if not slightly longer. Consider going down a half size if you are in between sizes but true to size if you are usually right on the number.
