iliac Golf
Bert LaMar might be the only person at the PGA show who wants to meet less people. By that I mean, Bert is not about making a product for every big box store or to be mass produced, but rather he wants to keep his vision of an exclusive brand that is more about style and tradition than being the biggest. You can see that right away when he has a closed booth, only open to people with appointments. Not just anyone gets an appointment either, I was honored to be able to spend time with Bert talking about iliac Golf.
I've had the opportunity to review a few of his products this past fall and I can say that his vision to create stunning timeless apparel and accessories is spot on. He simply has an eye for detail and creativity. As I snapped pictures of his booth, I couldn't find one thing that didn't look stunning. I appreciate the fact that not everyone else I see on the golf course has the shirt or accessory I do. Not only does Bert care about the look of his products, he is also a serious golfer that understands the importance of performance Some of the performance details he has added to his apparel are not found in any other brand.
But that wasn't always the way it was for iliac, just a few months ago the vision for iliac was headed in a different direction. Bert didn't have full ownership of the company and the other investors wanted to see it grow, grow, grow. Bert said that he even had a huge offer from a big name company to take over his brand. He turned them down and found a friend to help him buy back the company. He can now maintain his vision and dream for iliac golf.
One of his main goals is to offer his brand at exclusive clubs and shops around the country. So you will see his stuff at places like Bandon, The Tom Morris shop at St. Andrews, The Bull at Pinehurst Farm and many other top clubs...but you won't find it anywhere else. You can order many products off his website, but he will maintain and protect the green grass shops that carry his line.
You will not meet a nicer and humbler guy than Bert, for someone who's had so much success, it is nice to see his passion and humility shine when you talk with him.
