Review: Miura CB57 Irons

Invest in Your Game

The phrase “You get what you pay for” is more often true than not.  I can think of numerous items I’ve bought in my life that when I went cheap I regretted it later one because of the quality.  On the flip side I’ve had many experiences when I did invest a little extra and it paid off in the long run.  Golf is the same, that K-mart set might get the ball around the golf course ok, but is it really going to hold up or even work to the level you want?  If you place twice a year, it will be fine, but if you are serious about your game, why not invest in it.  Miura irons are the highest quality investment you can make in your iron game.

Why would you invest in Miura irons?  If you want the highest quality forged irons made exactly to your specs, you won’t find a better iron.  Some think that Miura’s are only for pros or scratch golfers, but that simply isn’t true.  The CB57 irons are a forgiving forged cavity back iron that any mid-handicap or lower golfer can play.  If you play around “bogey” golf, these could definitely be in your bag for years.

The Miura CB57 irons are one of the nicest looking irons on the market.  They have minimal stamping, no colors, and clean lines.  Not only are they very good looking, they have great feel.  Miura uses a very soft steel that is forged into the clubhead.   From there a hosel is welded on for precision from club to club unmatched by other manufactures.  This unique process provides Miura with a complete package; great feel, great looks and consistent performance.

I ordered mine with DG S300 shafts and Miura logo’d Pure grips.  Every club came in exactly on spec at D3.  You could tell the quality from the shipping box down to each ferrule done just right.  I didn’t really need any fancy or exotic specs, but if you do, they can certainly accommodate your requests.

On the course is where the “rubber hits the road,” and this is a solid investment.  They do everything you want them to do while playing.  They have sufficient forgiveness so that even miss-hits aren’t totally penalized, yet good strikes are repeatedly rewarded with good results.  I found these hit on a good mid-high trajectory, pretty much in the desired window for each club.  I had no problems hitting the 4-iron into the air for the shots I needed.  The cavity backs of the long irons offer just enough forgiveness that I felt comfortable with them even going over water to a small green.  The mid-irons have great holding power.  I was able to hit them high and stick greens.  They have just enough “workability” so that I could move the ball a little one way or the other as needed.  The short irons have really good accuracy.  I was happy with approaches that hit into small circles on the green.

The 2 most beneficial aspects of the CB57 iron is the sole grind and weight bar.  The sole has a moderate grind that makes turf interaction crisp and clean.  The radius is sharp enough to cut-in some, but blunted enough to keep it from digging.  I really liked how cleanly the divots were thin and shallow.  The weight-bar in the cavity is positioned dead center to really put the “meat” right behind the ball.  It created incredibly solid feel at impact and yet still some forgiveness on miss hits.

Miura’s aren’t going to “wow” you with distance, they are more about consistency and feel.  Their traditional lofts kept them still in the optimal distance range that I wanted.  I didn’t have to adjust at all.  These clubs aren’t going to change your iron game or change the landscape of irons.  They simply offer great looks, amazing feel and a consistency that is easy to play.

I’m not going to tell you how to spend you money, but don’t fear investing in Miura irons.  They are an excellent choice for a great feeling, clean looking, and fairly forgiving forged cavity back.  As you are probably aware, the mental game is significant too and if you are happy with your iron investment, that can help you play more positive golf.  Take a look at Miura CB57 irons and consider investing in your game.
