Odyssey O Works 7 Review

This is my official review of the Odyssey O-Works #7 Putter. I was using the Red version for this review but it also comes in black.

I was lucky enough to be able to use this putter for several rounds of golf and also practiced with it on my backyard putting green for many hours.

“Red” is all the rage on tour right now.  It seems like everyone has or has tried a red colored putter.  The color contrast seems to fit the eye nicely.  While I’m a pretty traditional putter kind of guy, the red has a really nice look against the green.  The white sight lines contrast the whole package nicely as well for good looks and vivid aiming.  If you really don’t like red, Odyssey offers the same model in black as well.  The Odyssey O-Works #7 really fits my eye nicely on the green.  A combination of shape and color make for a surprisingly nice look.

The more “red” numbers that find their way onto your scorecard the better. While good drives, tight approaches or close chips aid in obtaining “red” numbers, typically a good putter will be the biggest reason for birdies and eagles. The Odyssey O-Works #7 Putter has the potential to put more “red” scores on your card during a round of golf. If you are not seeing to many “red” numbers on your scorecard, check out this Odyssey O-Works #7 putter. Check out all the features that make this a great putter.
The Odyssey O-Work Red #7 has some other key features that make this a potential “gamer”.  The Microhinge face offers both excellent feel and roll.  I know many golfers like the soft Odyssey insert, but that has never worked for me.  This however is a metal face softened with an insert behind the metal and then the stainless steel is milled to create instant roll after impact.  The Microhinge face offers the best of all worlds; metal face, yet soft and forward roll tech.

The Odyssey O-Works #7 also has the weight done just the way I like even though it is a mallet.  I need the weight near the face for proper distance control.  My mind feels the weight and pushed it through the ball to control distance.  If that weight is toward the back of the putter, I still push the weight through, but it almost always results in long putts.  Once I remember that I try to manipulate my swing and then distance control is all off.  The #7 has the weight forward with just the 2 fangs in the back for balance and alignment.  It is ideal for how I like to putt.
I’ve had the Odyssey O-Works #7 on the course now for numerous rounds and have practiced hours with it on my backyard putting green.  I have been as consistent with distance control with this putter as with any putter I’ve ever played.  The balance and Microhinge face work perfectly.  Alignment is easy with the dots and lines.  My only issue is that I should have to the #7s which has a small slant neck for some toe hang.  I’ve got an arched stroke and it require some toe hang for  my best putting.  The regular #7 is face balanced which take concentration on my part to remember.  I was able to get a handful of birdies when I really focused on all the facets of this putter and the putt I needed to break, but it wasn’t automatic because of the face balance.  But no worries since Odyssey now has toe hang models for virtually every mallet they make in 2018.

Summary

The Odyssey O-Works #7 Red is a great putter that offers excellent distance control because of the weights and Microhinge face.  Make sure you know your stroke style so that you get the one that best lines up with your needs.  This putter has real potential to add some birdies to your scorecard.  Red numbers are awesome and the Odyssey O-Works Red #7 offers opportunities for that to happen.
