Review: 2011 Puma Apparel
It is the attention to details that makes it worth it.
PUMA apparel is mostly known for its bright tones and young pros who wear it. It is typically not clothing for the stodgy old golfer. The styles are clearly aimed at the younger generation of golfers. With that being said, their clothing line shouldn’t be overlooked by any golfer of any age. PUMA is producing and designing some of the nicest apparel in the industry.
Let me start with their newest polo. At first glance it looks like any other moisture wicking synthetic fabric shirt, but after really studying the details you learn that it is much more than just something bright to cover up your torso. First of all the fabric itself is very light weight and ever so soft. But the real feature is the construction of the shirt. The sleeves and seam pattern make it stand out above the rest. If you’ve really looked at your normal polo shirt, you will note how the shoulder seam is halfway down your bicep. PUMA has their seam up on your shoulders like it should be, closer to your neck. This means you don’t have to keep pulling at your sleeves so that there is no binding in your armpit. It also is longer in the torso so that you don’t have to worry about it coming untucked as the round goes on. It is also has hidden venting in the back material making one of the coolest shirts available.
The PUMA pants are again sown with detail, which really sets them apart from other pants. These pants are offered in a variety of colors. The pair I got is white. Now many are afraid to wear white because of the possibility of staining, but these are a nice pair of white pants. These too have little details like the cuff slit, which makes them cover your shoes nicely and really works well for walking. The pockets are nicely slanted with a little elastic at the base for getting hands and accessories in and out of. There were also two little pockets for tees right below the right hand pocket. The back pockets are wide and deep so that most score cards will fit. The inside of these pants too had a polo gripper on the waist band, had an extra button for keeping them smooth and flat when buttoning up and for the most part were thick enough white fabric so that nothing was showing through. I was impressed too with how stain resistant they are. After multiple rounds, they are still nice and white.
I only have two minor complaints with the pants. They still don’t offer lengths. While 32” is standard and fits many people, there are still many who are left out. The PUMA logo on the left front leg isn’t ideal. On the white pants it is not a big deal, but any time I where my black ones people comment that I have a string on my pants and I politely have to say that the string is supposed to be there, see it is the PUMA logo. While it is a conversation starter, it is not ideal.
Overall my PUMA apparel is some of my favorite and most commented about apparel that I wear. (positive comments that is) While much of their line might appeal to the younger golfer, their attention to detail is just what any discerning golfer is looking for.
