Review: Swing Oil

Get Loose Without a Hangover
You’ve probably heard the term “swing oil” associated with alcoholic beverages. Many golfers like to enjoy a cold beer, a mixed drink or a shot of Fireball during a round of golf (or all 3 combined and more). While a couple of drinks might relax the body and mind, things can quickly go south with a few too many. Instead of using alcohol to get loose, you could try a new product called Swing Oil. It claims that the 7 key ingredients used in this beverage will get you loose, keep you loose and help you remain loose until your next round.
Swing Oil comes in 3 flavors: Lemon-Lime, Strawberry-Banana, and Orange.  I opted for just the Orange flavor since the others simply don’t appeal to my taste buds.  They have numerous purchase options from as few as 4 in a trial pack up to 60.  You can order a single flavor or a mixture to them.  They recommend 3 pouches per round for the best experience.  1 before you tee off to get loose, 1 in the middle of the round to stay loose and 1 after your round to help in recovery.  The pouches can be frozen, chilled or used at room temperature.  I froze a few and kept them chilled for the warm AZ spring rounds.  Each pouch is only 3 ounces so they can be downed very quickly.  They also don’t take up much space in your bag, which is nice for keeping your carry bag light.

Here is a list of those 7 key ingredients and what they do:
1 – GLUCOSAMINE (100 mg.) & 2 – CHONDROITIN (50mg.)

Stay lubed up with these two. It’s like an oil change for your body.
3 – TURMERIC (40 mg.)
Inflammation destroys smooth swings. Turmeric is here to help.
4 – TAURINE (100 mg.)
Meet taurine: A low-cal, sugar-free pick-me-up for when you’re on the back 9.
5 – CITRULLINE MALATE (100 mg.)
You love the game too much to take days to recover. Be glad this is in here.
6 – GINSENG EXTRACT (100 mg.)
When you’re trying to putt or win the skin, focus matters. Enter ginseng.
7 – RHODIOLA ROSEA EXTRACT (50 mg.)
We all know what game-day stress is like. That’s why we included this

Does Swing Oil work?  Here is my take on it;  I love the taste.  I could have easily drank a whole box of pouches in one round, actually in just a couple holes.  I also felt like the muscle supplements kept my body feeling loose.  (full disclosure it’s been 90* for my rounds in AZ while testing this)  But I’m pretty sensitive to supplements like Taurine.  I actually felt like I had jittery mental focus like too much caffeine would do to me.  So the on course results were hitting the ball longer, but struggling to focus on putts.

Swing Oil tastes great and potentially can loosen up your muscles, and if you like Taurine, this could really help your game.  But for me the continued cost per round is a little much.  3 pouches/round will run around $9.  Add to that price some other beverages since these won’t keep you hydrated.  This is actually my biggest issue, that these don’t keep you hydrated, which is necessary here in AZ.  If they kept the flavor, but made them 12 ounces, that would be awesome.

While it is hard to quantify the true impact of Swing Oil on my game, the orange flavor is delicious.  If you think it will help you swing like Jason Day, then go for it.  Get Loose, Swing Smooth and don’t worry about a hangover.
