REVIEW: TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder

Packing Every Need Into a Great Laser Rangefinder
The slope/no slope debate will eventually go away (I called it now). But until that happens there is a tension between the USGA and rangefinder manufactures that want to offer both slope and non-slope options in one unit to appeal to both segments of the golfing population. There have been face plates and switches, some have made it obvious while others don’t as much. The new TecTecTec ULT-X rangefinder has the really simple sliding face plate that shows nothing when “legal” and bright yellow when using slope. Besides that feature it is a really accurate and easy to use rangefinder at a solid price point. They packaged just about every option you could want in a laser rangefinder into this unit.
While TecTecTec might not have tour recognition, they are the best selling laser rangefinder on Amazon.  That means a whole bunch of golfers have already found their quality and price to be solid and useful for golf.  This is my second TecTecTec laser rangefinder and I have nothing but good things to say about them.  The ULT-X is solid, fast, accurate, and easy to use.  They also do this at a price about half of their name branded competition.

The TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder is a nice white and black design with a yellow accent when using slope.  The slider face plate works as a switch turning it on and off effortlessly.  I don’t play in USGA events so slope is fine with me for my rounds.  I like how the display shows line of sight and adjusted for slope.  I’ve found the adjustments to be accurate and helpful.  While the knowledge still requires the proper club and swing, the adjusted distance offers a higher percentage of hitting the target than just guessing.

The TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder works like any other laser rangefinder with the push of a button on the top spine.  Push it once to turn the unit on and then push it again to get the exact yardage to your target.  If you are shooting at flags, it has a “lock” mode that vibrates when you hit the flag.  While this wasn’t the fastest laser I’ve ever used, it only takes a second to acquire and lock on the flag.  The display is a black LCD of the distance in yards or meters.  You can also scan for a variety of yardages if you hold the button down.

The TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder uses a 6x magnification that can be focused to your eyes so that you can see flags far away.  I’m amazed at the 3/10th of a yard accuracy up to 300 yards.  That is more than good enough for me.  It can catch distances all the way up to 1000 yards.  I’m not really sure the need for that, other than it can.  The optics are very clear when looking through the lens.  It is easy to hold and fits in my hand nicely.  It also comes with a nice case that attaches to any golf bag.  It has everything ready to go right out of the box.

I realize TecTecTec might not be a household name when it comes to laser rangefinders, but they are certainly growing, improving and making a name for themselves with a high quality, feature packed, easy to use and accurate rangefinder at a more reasonable price.  The TecTecTec ULT-X Rangefinder is a complete package that will cover all your distance needs, slope or no slope.
