I used the Blue Tees Ringer GPS Handheld for 7 rounds this spring as my yardage device.  This handheld GPS has excellent accuracy with both simple function and additional information when needed about my shots, hazards, green views and shot tracking.

It has both what the golfer needs and what golfers want in a handheld GPS device that also doubles as a cart GPS.

This is my definitive Blue Tees Ringer GPS Handheld Review.

Handheld GPS

The gap is closing between camp laser and camp GPS.  The Blue Tees Ringer GPS Handheld proves that you can get all the details you want and need to make good descisions on the golf course concerning distance.  In the most basic mode and settings you can have front, middle, back constantly displayed.  You can keep it in your pocket or stuck to the cart arm via the magnetic back.  It has long battery life so you can get multiple rounds out of it.  It also has advanced features which give more course knowledge and can help track your shots for future improvement.

On-Course Function

The Blue Tees Ringer GPS Handheld is a compact, golf, touchscreen GPS unit.  It can function independent of a phone can unlock more features via Bluetooth connected smart phone app.  It only takes a few seconds to set up the first time and even less to fire up at the beginning of each round.  The auto course find, auto hole advance, and auto lock functions make it extremely easy to use on the first round.  It takes almost zero effort to get the GPS distances you need to front, center, and middle. Since it does most everything itself you don’t really even have to touch it for 18 holes if you just want the basic information.  However if you unlock the full function of this handheld GPS you can get bunkers, hazards, and green views as well as shot tracking and shot distance.  The combination of touchscreen and button isn’t almost the most intuitive as to which one you need for what function, but after a little trial and error (unless you read the manual) you can figure out what can be done with a swipe and what takes a push.

Battery Life

Battery life is typically the number one factor in the laser vs GPS debate.  How many holes can you play on one charge/one battery?  Laser will often make hundreds of holes while GPS we hope makes more than 36.   The Blue Tees Ringer GPS Handheld has excellent battery life for a GPS.  I used it for 4 rounds on a single charge.  This is impressive considering the screen stays on for all 4 hours of your round, adjusting constantly to the changing distances and holes you play.  I expected to find a dead GPS the next round to see 75% left on the battery.  It uses about 25% per round.  This makes this unit functional even if you forget to charge it between rounds.

Summary

The Blue Tees Ringer GPS Handheld has basic functions that work very well right out of the box, but you can unlock premium functions (first year free) with app connection and a few swipe or button pushes.  It is small, compact, and the battery on the back makes it useful while riding in a cart.  I found the distances very accurate and the knowledge of green view, bunker information and shot data can help you make the best decisions while playing.  It can even be paired with the Players+ Speaker as a remote so that both golfers on the cart have GPS distance and sound control.  The $199 price point is a solid investment and the special combo packs make this a nice add on with a laser.  Sometimes all you need is a quick glance as distance to the green.  The long battery life and simple auto functions allows this handheld GPS to fit golfers needs and wants for on-course distance.
