Tour players have been dropping higher lofted fairway woods into their bags left and right. You’ve probably heard of guys playing 5 woods, 7 woods, even 9 woods on tour.

The benefits of higher lofted fairway woods are legit for all skill levels of golfer: high launch, long carry, and stopping power.

The Callaway ELYTE might just be the best combo of all those features, especially in the higher lofted fairway woods.

I tested this club in my bag for 5 rounds and in the iGR Office by Carl’s Place Simulator.

It might be the perfect combo for higher lofted fairway woods in 2025.

This is my definitive Callaway ELYTE Fairway Wood Review.

Callaway ELYTE Fairway Wood

Tungsten Speed Wave = Fast

The Callaway ELYTE Fairway Wood has a 35 gram suspended weight behind the face to give it ELYTE power.

This club is a rocket launcher that feels so solid at impact.

By suspending the weight off the sole they are able to move the CG up to keep the launch stronger and the spin down in this design.

It is paired with the Ai 10x face so the ball just launches off the face with amazing forgiveness and speed.

I gamed the 5-wood and the ball speeds are certainly ELYTE.

Having weight in just the right spot behind the face works.

Step Sole = Easy from Everywhere

Callaway created a two level sole so that turf interaction is reduced.

Their claim is 57% reduction in contact with the ground.

If you consider the swing path as the club is exiting the ground, the back of the club is has been stepped up, so it doesn’t touch.

The Callaway ELYTE Fairway Wood still sits on the ground square with the large step-up sole pad right behind the face.

This club is incredibly versatile from any lie.

It is easy to launch from the fairway as well as the rough.

If you are going higher loft you need it to be able to replace a hybrid, which is does very well.

Glued Hosel = Better CG

The Callaway ELYTE Fairway Wood has a glued hosel.

While this might seem like going backwards since just about every driver/wood/ hybrid has an adjustable hosel.

But honestly if you never adjust the hosel from the stock setting, what do you need it for anyway?

The glued hosel looks clean, but also helps Callaway manipulate the CG for better launch and spin control.

With this and the features listed above is why this club can launch it high, have LONG carry and then stops on a dime.

The reason for choosing a high lofted fairway wood is the repeated distance control.

Callaway ELYTE 5-Wood Data

Data from Flightscope MEVO+ Pro Launch Monitor

➜ Spin: 3579 rpms

➜ Launch Angle: 20.3*

➜ Dispersion: 4.0 yds

➜ Club Head Speed: 100.5 mph

➜ Ball Speed: 136.7 mph

➜ Total Distance: 225.8 yds

➜ Carry Distance: 223.5 yds

Summary

The Callaway ELYTE Fairway Wood is perfect for higher lofted fairway woods.

I’m seriously considering dropping my hybrid and playing this club instead.

The ability to launch it higher and longer, but the stopping power to keep it from running out or through the green means I can control the finishing spot better.

The technology in these fairway woods is ELYTE.

The combination of new technology in this club makes it perfect for a plethora of fairway woods in your bag, specifically high lofted ones.

2025 might be the year to drop your hybrid and play a high loft fairway wood; this one is perfect.
