Cleveland has been known to push the boundaries with their innovative and creative designs.

The new Cleveland HiBore XL Driver is their newest version of something uniquely shaped to help golfers hit straighter shots.

I tested it on the course this winter, on the range and in the IGR Office by Carl’s Place DIY Simulator.

While it took  a few swings to figure it out, once I did this driver is one of the straightest I’ve ever hit.

This is my definitive Cleveland HiBore XL Driver Review.

Different Shape For Straighter Drives

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

This famous quote could be applied to so many golfers when it comes to their drivers

Round after round it goes sideways so they go to the golf store and get the newer version or even a different brand of basically the same club.

Sure maybe the claim is more forgiving, or 10K, but if the design remains the same, how often don’t the results remain the same.

The Cleveland HiBore XL Driver is  way and actually works to hit the ball straighter.

While the triangle shape is different, if you want different results, check this out.

AI Technology

The new Cleveland HiBore XL Driver is shaped by AI.

The shape and face are all based on AI technology focused on creating the straightest hitting driver.

It has one of the biggest hitting areas of any driver on the market.

Forgiveness is spread across the entire face.

The Mainfrme XL face is hot and forgiving allowing golfers to swing freely and confidently.

The combination of shape and face designed by AI make drives go straight.

Details of Straight Drives

The Cleveland HiBore XL Driver is driven by its triangles shape and anchored by the rear adjustable weight.

While it comes stock with a 12gram weight about as far from the face as possible, it is also part of the reason this club hits so straight.

That pass is a stabilizing “rudder” on the return of the club to the ball.

The Activwing on the crown serves as an airfoil to keep the club from twisting on the down swing too.

Thus there are two details working hand in hand to keep the clubhead square at impact.

It has a hosel with a wide span of adjustment too if you want it fit your swing for the straightest drives.

Learned Performance

The Cleveland HiBore XL Driver is different on purpose so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it took me a few swings to get the performance figured out.

I test drivers all the time and since they are pretty much all the same, I know what to do and expect.

At first the HiBore difference had me hitting things crooked.

The lightweight Mitsubishi Tensei Blue AV shaft with  counterbalance under the grip took me some adjusting as well as dealing with the new shape and design.

But after some range time, some course time, I was able to step up with incredible confidence and watch every ball to perfectly straight, at times too straight.

The spin is up just a bit for me to max out distance, the absolutely dead center drives was good for my game.

Cleveland HiBore XL Driver Stats

Data from Flightscope MEVO+ 2023 Launch Monitor

➜ Spin: 2,691 rpms

➜ Launch Angle: 13.8*

➜ Dispersion: 4.8 yds

➜ Club Head Speed: 109.1 mph

➜ Ball Speed: 158.3 mph

➜ Total Distance: 280.1 yds

➜ Carry Distance: 265.8 yds

Summary

If you need to break the rut of crooked drives, do something different.

The Cleveland HiBore XL Driver achieves different results through a different shape and design.

The AI driven triangular shape, the Activwing, the counterbalanced lightweight shaft, and the Mainframe XL Face all work in harmony to generate long straight drives.

More fairways hit will most likely mean more greens hit, which leads to lower scores.

It all starts on the tee and if you need different results, than start with a different driver like the Cleveland HiBore XL.
