Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3-Wood Review

I played 5 rounds of golf with the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3-wood in my bag. It is one of the larger sized 3-woods and it has rails.

This is a combo for success for many golfers because it will bring some fun to their fairway wood game.

I was also able to hit it on my FlightScope Xi Tour Launch Monitor to collect shot data. I have over 10 years of experience testing and reviewing golf clubs.

Here is my overall experience and thoughts on this 3-wood.

Do you love or hate your 3-wood?

It seems that it is one or the other for most golfers.

I think the relationship with a 3-wood comes down to how you use it.

The good news is that the new Cleveland Launch XL Halo 3-wood is great for any use.

It has a very large footprint which gives a golfer confidence on the tee, yet the combination of shallow face and rails means it is easy to hit off the turf.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3-wood is in the next evolution in the Launcher family.

It has one of the largest footprints of any 3-wood I’ve had in the bag.

I remember days when this club would have been bigger than my driver of years past.

While the actual cc aren’t huge, it look pretty big behind the ball.

Given that it is call an XL I suppose that shouldn’t come as a surprise.

The large footprint still looks good behind the ball with the stepped crown and the rear of the crown detail.

The alignment aids help point the club in the right direction.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3-wood has a shallow face.

AS you can see from this picture is a flat and wide face.

While it might feel like you can slide under the ball, it actually makes it really easy to launch from any turf and yet still offers all kinds of forgiveness.

The shallow face and rear weight makes it really easy to launch the ball high.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3-wood has 2 large Gliderails that run from the face to back of the sole.

This isn’t the first 3-wood to have rails.

I’m personally a big fan of the rails since I’ve found them to help with turf interaction for both a smooth glide along the surface as well as “rudder” like action through the turf.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3-wood offers excellent all around on-course performance.

The low CG from the rails and weight mean it is easy to launch high.

For many golfers this is a bonus in a 3-wood.

This club spins the ball on the higher side of 3-woods which certainly aids launch.

The turf interaction is really good so it resists twisting at impact too which also aids to straight shots.

The spin, launch and rails all keep this head point in the right direction.

It isn’t the longest 3-wood out there, but it certainly is one of straightest.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 3-wood has super lightweight shaft in the Cypher by Project X.

It also comes stock with an 8gram counterbalance which is designed to stop “casting”.

This will help golfers who slice the ball.

While personally it messes with my timing and feel, it benefits many “slicers”.

The shaft itself has a good feel and nice launch and is actually quite stable for such a lightweight shaft.
