Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder Review
The 1st Laser Rangefinder With Variable Zoom Because Closer Is Better.
Have you ever wondered why laser rangefinder are 6x or 7x zoom? Why not 8x or 10x or even 12x zoom? Most golfers use their laser rangefinders from about 200 yards and in. The shorter the distance, the less zoom you need to lock onto the pin. A fixed zoom at 7x works great for most golfing situations so that you don’t too much zoom making it hard for the golfer to lock onto their target.
Cobalt is is about to shake up the laser rangefinder industry with their new variable zoom optics in the Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder. It offers 6x-12x zoom with the slider of a lever. This means you can really get close while acquiring accurate distance to the pin. Cobalt is already an industry leader in high quality optics, super fast distance calculations, durable body, lifetime warranty, and an easy to see display. I tested it over 5 rounds of golf for accuracy and function. I’m impressed by how much better 12x zoom in for getting accurate distances.
This is my definitive Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder Review.

Cobalt Quality
Hopefully this isn’t the first time you are hearing about Cobalt. They are one of the OGs when it comes to laser measuring devices, however most of those years were spent exclusively in the commercial side of distance measurement. Over the last 5 years they have built a reputation in the consumer market as one of the highest quality laser rangefinders you can buy. Combine their lifetime warranty, with a durable aluminum housing on a magnesium chassis, and IXP7 waterproof; this thing is “bullet proof” which makes this a purchase that consumers can trust.
They have 4 models at different price points with different features for golfers to choose what they need. This new model the Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder takes the industry into territory they’ve never been before. If you want to get closer, this is the only laser rangefinder with variable zoom to bring your target 12x closer.

6x-12x Zoom
The Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder has variable zoom making it the 1st of its kind. You can start with your zoom like any other laser on the market at 6x. You look through the monocular and press the button to acquire accurate distance. But maybe you want to see the green a little better to understand where the pin is on the green or if there are any contours on the green that could impact your shot. The sliding lever by the eye piece is easy to move and watch as you zoom in on the flag. 12x zoom max brings it really close, but still feels “normal”.
I found myself gravitating toward the 12x throughout the round, to the point that I pretty much left it zoomed in all the time. I don’t have shaky hands so it was never a problem close up, but I can imagine at short distances struggling to find and acquire the target with shaky hands because it is too close.

New and Improved Features
The Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder has the magnet we first saw in in the Q-6SM model as well as a completely new case. I know that for years Cobalt made a horizontal case for their lasers and I’m assuming really believed in it, but I personally never found it better than the typical vertical style case. The new case is a similar vertical to most brands which I honestly think is a great improvement. The laser is less likely to fall out if you don’t get it closed all the way. The other standard feature for slope, brightness and display remain the same. You get one of best lasers now with variable zoom.

On-Course Precision
The Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder has both amazing optics and fast, accurate distances. Now that you can zoom in even closer, you can be confident that you are locked on the pin with your laser adding another level of confidence to your shot. Cobalt remains committed to showing one distance whether you are in slope mode or not. There is no confusion about what you should hit, simply trust their calculations and execute the shot. As I mentioned above, I tended to leave the zoom at 12x while playing. It liked how much more I could see of the green to decided if long, short, right or left was the better play into the green.

Summary
If you want the best and newest feature you can’t find on any other laser rangefinder, the Cobalt Q-Z6 Laser Rangefinder is the only one with variable zoom 6x-12x. I found the new extra powerful zoom functional and beneficial on the course. It isn’t just a gimmick, but really useful visual assistance when attacking a green. It adds another layer of confidence that your laser acquired the pin, and not something behind it.
Cobalt has long been an industry leader, even if for years they were working in the shadows, this model offers variable zoom that no other laser does, in order to get your closer. The durable body, clear optics, easy to use controls, long battery life, new and improved case, lifetime warranty, magnet and 6x-12x zoom. This really is the best laser you can buy in 2026.
