Wisconsin has become the top golf state in the US. It has numerous courses in the top 100 and many more stellar properties throughout the state. (It just so happens to be the state I grew up in) With so much great golf, and top tier resorts, picking one can be difficult. Destination Geneva National Golf Resort might not have any top 100 courses, but its collection of 54 holes by Palmer, Trevino, and Player make this the ultimate destination for golf, relaxation, celebration and fun. I had the opportunity to celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary here in luxurious lodging, eating outstanding food, and playing some excellent golf. It is perfect for weddings, guys trips, getaways and golf.

This is my official Destination Geneva National Golf Resort Review.

Destination Geneva National Golf Resort

1. Destination Geneva National

Where can you play courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino at one resort? Destination Geneva National has 3 golf course on property to go along with an incredible clubhouse, a wide variety of lodging and housing, multiple restaurants and a beautiful setting along the shores of Lake Como. While Lake Geneva area was one of the first golf destinations in the state of WI, it might be overshadowed by the big-name new comers, but don’t sleep on Destination Geneva National Golf Resort because it offers a great resorts experience for everyone.

2. Player Course

The best course at Destination Geneva National Golf Resort is the Player Course. The combination of unique holes, beautiful setting and lack of housing surrounding the holes make this the best pure golf experience on property. From the starting hole to the finishing hole you will enjoy challenging and unique holes. The par 3s are outstanding, and it has some really creative par 4s that offer both fun and challenges. The drivable par 4 over the wasteland is memorable as is the finishing short par 4 guarded by a pond. If I were playing multiple rounds on each course while on property, I would play the Player Course the most.

3. Palmer Course

The Palmer Course is kind of diabolical in the fact that many holes are woven tightly through the housing developments of the property, yet it has the best holes along the water to finish. The 16th, 17th and 18th holes are touching Lake Como. The signature hole is the par 5, 17 which enjoys open views of the water up the left side. It offers a fair challenge and great holes through the woods and along the lake.

4. Trevino Course

The Trevino Course at Destination Geneva National Golf Resort was recently renovated and updated with cart paths, bunker sand, etc and it shows the commitment to quality. While there are residential properties boarding many of the holes, it feels more secluded than the Palmer course. It has a good mix up elevation changes without getting severe and it too has some memorable par 3s.

5. Hunt Club Steak House

The Hunt Club Steak House offers some of the best food I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The Duck Fat Parker House Rolls are an absolute must; the best bread I’ve ever tasted. The steaks were outstanding, the drinks were well crafted, the new summer salad was surprisingly awesome and the former “hunt club” setting overlooking the Player Course was perfect. My wife and I enjoyed a delicious and romantic 25th wedding anniversary dinner.

6. Dance Floor Putting Course + Practice Area

Practice, practice, practice and fun will be an option at Destination Geneva National Golf Resort if you make the time to hit the range or enjoy the Dance Floor Putting Course. Right outside the main clubhouse and looking out on Lake Como is a huge range for hitting balls or a multi-level ginormous putting course/green which is also lit for night time fun. Grab a putter, a drink from the bar and have some fun putt-putt for all ages.

7. Golf Suites

The king golf suites are one of their newer more luxurious lodging options. If you are picking Destination Geneva National Golf Resort to celebrate or enjoy as a couple, this IS the lodging choice. The large rooms overlook the 18th hole on the Player Course. They are well appointed and have a spacious feel with 12ft ceilings. They have every detail perfect for a couple to enjoy a getaway for a week or weekend. They are central to the property and close enough to walk to the clubhouse. The adirondack chairs are just a few steps away to enjoy a drink watching golfers finish up their round.

8. Location, Location, Location

The south central location in WI makes it convenient for golfers from WI, IL, MN, IA, etc. to hop in their car and in just a short time enjoy this getaway. Outside of the resort are small lake towns with shops, restaurants, parks and events all summer long. While you don’t really need to leave the resort because of the variety of things to do on property and numerous dining options, if you or others in your group want to explore the area, there are plenty of sights to see and places to go.

9. Celebration, Relaxation, Fun, Etc.

The Destination Geneva National Golf Resort is set up for special occasions like a 25th Anniversary, a Wedding, or a Guys Trip. They have a lodge across the water from the clubhouse, golf suites along hole 18, homes throughout the property, condos and other lodging options to suit your needs. They host multiple weddings every weekend all summer long with beautiful outer settings and a variety of ball rooms. They are set-up to host any size of group from an intimate gathering to a large party.

Summary

Destination Geneva National Golf Resort was one of the OG golf resorts in the state and certainly shouldn’t be overlooked. It offers everything golfers are looking for whether it be a guys trip, a wedding, an anniversary or just a relaxing weekend; they have excellent golf paired with excellent dining options and luxurious lodging. They keep reinvesting in the resort to keep it up to date and offer the best product to their guests. With the rise of the WI golf scene remember that Destination Geneva National offers 54 holes by the greats like Palmer, Player, and Trevino along the shores of Lake Como in Lake Geneva, WI.
