Finding the right putter is just as much an art as it is a science. While we can spend hours at a golf store trying numerous models from different brands; wouldn’t it be nice if we could try different combinations at home or on our home course’s putting green? If we could change the weight, change the alignment, change the shape or change the putter style; wouldn’t that be helpful for fitting?

The Killer Golf The Blade EQ Putter allows you to change the weight of the putter, the shape of the putter and the alignment of the putter. There are more than 2 dozen combinations for you to choose your own adventure on the greens. I found one combo was absolutely killer on the greens. It starts with a relatively traditional looking blade and can be modified to look like a mallet. You have to choose what is right for you.

The Blade

The Killer Golf The Blade EQ Putter base is an anser style putter with a double bend shaft. It has a deep milled face and comes in without any additional weight at 300grams. It is really light, but it is also expected that some weight will be added from the EQ kit. You can get the head in black or silver finish. The are also shaft, shaft length and grip size options. It is a pretty killer combo in its most base set up.

The face milling is super deep and offers an extremely soft feel at impact. They did it with a contrasting silver and black finish to give it a sharp look too. The paint fill is done in gold to give it a rich look. But overall it is pretty stealthy in black right out of the box.

The EQ System

The Killer Golf The Blade EQ Putter comes with the EQ System which is a combination of weights and a wing to find the killer combination for your putting stroke. There are 4 heavy weights ranging from 25grams to 150grams. There is a wing and base options for the wing. Then the wing can be rotated roughly 45* from a strong inside arch to a strong outside arch. There are 26 combinations of weights and wings. I’m not sure I actually figured out all 26 combinations, but I tried most of them.

There is a torque screw on the bottom of the putter that allows you to change the weights and wing. Because of the different weights and wing options, there are also a couple screws depending on how deep the threads are. The putter comes with weight bags and a stretch holder for the screws. Every options allows for immediate feedback and you can tell the difference with every combo; the key is finding the right one.

Choosing the Adventure

The Killer Golf The Blade EQ Putter allows you to choose your own adventure. I practiced so many combinations on the iGR putting green, and took a number of them to the course for 18 holes. You can keep it a blade and just add circular weights to the base making the putter light or heavy. Then there are 2 different bases for the EQ wing which allow you to change the weight combination as well as the height of the wing. While these combination might not look much different on paper, in reality, it changes the putter. One Killer Combo on the Greens

After testing a number combinations of the Killer Golf The Blade EQ Putter it became obvious that there was one killer combination: EQ with Base60. This took the 300gram base putter and made it 425grams with the EQ wing set straight. While I have an arch stroke naturally, when I rotated the wing towards the heal or the toe, it seemed like I had more trouble getting alignment right.

This killer combination was incredibly successful on the greens. It turned a blade putter into a mallet putter. The EQ wing also sits a little off the ground moving the MOI up into the middle of the face which also helps create a really solid roll. The feel, balance, alignment and speed were excellent for getting the ball in the hole. I rolled in a 35′ putt for birdie, 20′ for par and another 15′ birdie putt on my first round. Even my playing partners were impressed by how successful this combo was.

Summary

The Killer Golf The Blade EQ Putter is a putter with endless adventures to try, but for me one combo was killer. I was impressed with the feel, options, combinations and success. It did take a little getting used to the looks of the putter, but in a day an age when style is less important compared to results, those were hard to argue against the success I saw on the greens. It might take some time for your adventures to find the right combo, but when you do it is killer.
