Our Top Tested Picks

In More Depth: Our TOp Picks
Best Golf Ball for Distance
TaylorMade Distance+

Pros
- Immediately increases ball speed from easy compression design.
- Ionomer cover is soft while durable and affordable
- Less side-spin for straighter, longer results
Cons
- It is not an optimal fit for faster-swinging golfers.
Bottom Line
The TaylorMade Distance+ is a leader in the Longest Golf Balls 2025 conversation by creating a soft-feeling, affordable distance ball. It is a fantastic fit for mid to higher-handicap golfers.
Construction Style: Two piece
Colors Available: White, Yellow
Our top pick for the #1 best distance-focused golf ball of 2025 is the TaylorMade Distance+ (Plus) because our testing found it would benefit the highest number of golfers for a multitude of reasons:
- The Distance+ immediately increases ball speed through its easy compression (77) SpeedREACT core, fitting a wide range of swing speeds.
- Its cover is soft for noticeable feel, workability, and precision in scoring positions.
- They have a friendly price point (1/3rd the price of premium distance-ball competitors)
Until recent memory, golf balls marketed as “Long” were always accompanied by a hard-as-a-rock feel off the clubface.
The TaylorMade Distance+ features an ionomer cover, allowing TaylorMade engineers to create a soft feel while saving a boatload of money in production. TaylorMade is kind enough to pass those savings on to us, resulting in the pocket-friendly Distance+.
While messing with the Distance+ at my local municipal course, I was impressed by its lack of side-spin off the tee (helping length), and the beefed-up alignment aid was beneficial on the greens.
If you’d like to improve your length on every shot with great feel and affordable price-per-ball to accompany it, go with our top pick, the TaylorMade Distance+.
Best Value
MaxFli Tour X

Pros
- PGA TOUR quality distance ball for fast swing speed golfers
- 2 / 3 the price of some premium competitors while exceeding them in distance
- Excellent spin with wedges and irons while limited off the tee
- Direct-to-Consumer model saves money
Cons
- Slow-swing speed golfers will not benefit from a 101 compression rating.
Bottom Line
Moderate to faster swing speed budget-conscious golfers have a premium pick in the MaxFli Tour X.
Construction Style: Four piece
Colors Available: White, Yellow, Customize Your Own
The MaxFli Tour X is making major waves in the equipment industry for being a premium, budget-friendly ball for serious, faster-swing-speed golfers from a company you might not think of first.
MaxFli’s Tour X is the firmest, highest compression rating, and highest spinning ball model they’ve ever produced. It felt so good in testing that Top 100 PGA TOUR player Ben Griffin immediately put it in his competitive rotation.
MaxFli really impressed us with the amount of tech they crammed into the Tour X for the price. They heard players were unhappy with core-centeredness, so they developed a now-patented core balancing process to ensure straighter ball flights and rolls on greens.
The Tour X is a four-piece golf ball, meaning multiple cores are designed for faster ball speed, while the outer layers focus on lowering off-the-tee spin and maximizing iron and wedge spin.
Most impressive of all, independent testing found the Tour X edging out the long-reigning king of the ball world (Titleist Pro V1) in producing the most length for fast swing speeds.
Longest Golf Ball for Low Handicap
Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash

Pros
- High flight, low spin golf ball for excellent distance
- Short game spin indistinguishable from standard Pro V1x
- Excellent (maybe best) performer in the wind
Cons
- Firm/Clicky sound and feel
Bottom Line
The Titleist Pro V1x is the #1 option for low handicap golfers because it accentuates the positives of most better players’ games (length/speed) while simultaneously providing damage control through long-game spin limitation and maxed-out ball flight height.
Construction Style: Four Piece
Colors Available: White, Customize Your Own
After playing three rounds with the Titleist Pro V1x (Left Dash), I was hooked. That might be because it filled the holes in my game that were desperate for fixing.
My driver needed height and less spin, and the Pro V1x- gave me those things in spades. Where my 5 wood would spin too much, the Pro V1x- straightened those misses. And in the <150 yards department, I could not tell a difference in spin between the traditional Pro V1x and Left Dash.
The Pro V1x is marketed as a “High-Flight, Low-Spin” golf ball—until you’re in scoring position, when it performs just like a high-spinning Pro V1x.
With this reduction in driver spin, I noticed an immediate accuracy increase off the tee (+2 fairways per round) with straighter ball flights to boost. Where the Pro V1x gets destroyed by the wind, the Left Dash doesn’t at all.
The Pro V1x is Titleist’s firmest golf ball, which is noticeable in putting. Other than that, I have truly loved the Left Dash experience, and I’m confident you will, too.
Best Ball for Low Driver Spin
TaylorMade TP5x

Pros
- Provides more control and less spin for greater off the tee performance
- Adds 5+ yards to most golfers immediately
- Ample short-game spin
Cons
- Not a good fit for naturally low-spin golfers
Bottom Line
Nearly all moderate to faster-swinging golfers struggle with spin and ball flight control with longer clubs. The TP5x is the perfect golf ball to aid these misses while capitalizing on more speed to create great distance.
Construction Style: Five piece
Colors Available: White, Yellow, Alignment Stripe, Multi-Color’ Pix’
The TaylorMade TP5x is the godsend golf ball for moderate to faster swing-speed golfers who need more accuracy and control off the tee without sacrificing distance.
TaylorMade’s remodeled TP5x features a five-layer design that starts with Speed Wrapped Core technology. TaylorMade sought a way to mute impact sound and improve feel while increasing ball speed with this reimagined design.
The gradient layers surrounding the new core design combine for reduced spin in longer shots (driver and fairway woods) and the same greenside spin and control we expect out of premium TaylorMade balls.
While playing with the TP5x, I was really impressed with the lower, more controlled trajectory and spin I saw on all shots off the tee and long approaches. I particularly loved how this lower spin and ball flight pierces through windy conditions with zero worries it’ll lose distance or accuracy.
Rory McIlroy thought the new TP5x was so good in testing it found an immediate spot in the 4-time Major winner’s bag. Hear him discuss how he gained 7-8 yards with the TP5x here.

Best Distance ball for Slow Swing Speed
Bridgestone e9 Long Drive

Pros
- Bridgestone e9 naturally raises ball flight and lowers spin for more distance
- Lower compression core is perfect for average to slower swing speeds
- Vibrant colors are great for improved visibility
Cons
- Firmer feel
Bottom Line
The Bridgestone e9 Long Drive is NOT a golf ball for the fastest swingers on the market. Rather, it’s a perfect high-launch, low-spin distance ball for average swing speeds. It has less spin in the long game for straighter ball flights and enough spin to compete in the short game.
Construction Style: Three Piece
Colors Available: Gloss White, Yellow, Orange, Pink
The Bridgestone e9 Long Drive ball was made with direct help from the World Long Drive Association, but don’t let that trick you into thinking the e9 is only beneficial to the fastest swingers.
The “Long Drive” is clearly a distance-focused golf ball, but its design includes a lower compression core (great for average to slower swing speeds.)
That low-compression core is surrounded by gradually firmer layers, allowing faster ball speed and lower long-game spin with high ball flights everywhere.
When we compared the e9 to premium-priced competitors, the e9 was marginally firmer off the clubface and displayed spin ratings roughly 15% less in the long game and 5% less in the short game.
The lower spin and firmer feel result in a ball that wants to fly straight. Combine that with its ramped-up flight and naturally faster ball speed, and you get an increase in accuracy and distance—a hard combo to beat.

Best Distance Ball for Straight Drives
Titleist Velocity

Pros
- Titleist’s ball that focuses on straight flight and more distance
- Noticeably less spin off the tee than in the short game
- Ridiculously affordable at Walmart/Target stores
Cons
- Lower greenside spin than premium Titleist offerings
Bottom Line
Titleist fans who want a premium-made golf ball that focuses on straight flight and distance have their optimized fit in the Velocity. The ball continued to impress us throughout testing, fitting a wide range of swing speeds and golfer profiles.
Construction Style: Two piece
Colors Available: White, Matte Orange, Matte Green, Design Your Own
The Velocity golf ball is Titleist’s answer for golfers prioritizing straighter, longer shots above all else. Come to think of it, what golfer wouldn’t those things benefit?
The Titleist Velocity has a high-speed, extra-large core with a compression rating of 84. This moderate compression rating combined with an XL core size creates faster ball speeds for a wide range of swing speeds and noticeably less spin in the long game.
When testing the Titleist Velocity, my first impressions were a noticeable jump in both ball flight height and ball speed. It’s a little nerve-wracking watching your ball climb to heights you’re unfamiliar with, but this elevated length becomes a weapon when shots aren’t spinning offline with it.
While the core and dimple designs are focused on limiting spin, the new Velocity cover grips and grabs wedge grooves for plenty of feel and control where it matters most.
Best for Durability
Mizuno RB Max

Pros
- Durable Mizuno distance-focused golf ball
- Easy compression for average to faster swingers
- High ball flight in driver, penetrating flight in wedges
Cons
- Firmer feel
Bottom Line
The Mizuno RB Max is a fantastic high-ball flight, high-durability golf ball option for average to faster-swinging golfers.
Construction Style: Three Piece
Colors Available: White, Yellow
The RB Max is unlike any other Mizuno golf ball available. It’s powered by features from their best-performing golf balls in a resilient, affordable package.
The RB Max’s design begins with the core style of their Tour-preferred golf balls (RB Tour and RB Tour X) and a firmer, tougher Ionomer cover for improved scratch resistance and creates less overall spin.
The RB Max’s core includes a softer center portion surrounded by a firmer core layer. These layers combine for easier compression (optimal distance for average to faster swingers), higher ball flights, and a moderate to firm feel off the club face.
If that tech. wasn’t enough; the RB Max features a new dimple design that includes 20% more dimples than previous models.
Mizuno found that this dimple design increases ball flight height with faster swings (drives and approaches) and creates a more penetrating ball fight in the wedge game. We can 100% confirm that it felt significant and effective in our testing.
Best Direct To Consumer Distance Ball
VICE Pro Air

Pros
- Affordable, premium-quality distance ball
- Softer compression is fantastic for slower to moderate swing speeds
- Higher ball flight for more distance and stopping power
Cons
- Faster swingers might consider a different VICE model.
Bottom Line
Slower to moderate swing speed golfers wanting a proper premium golf ball (urethane cover) with a focus on length have an affordable option in the VICE Pro Air.
Construction Style: Three piece
Colors Available: White, Neon Yellow, Neon Pink, Drip Red Black, Drip Petrol Yellow, Neon Drip
Regarding Direct-to-Consumer golf balls, VICE is the king of the hill. Their VICE Pro Air ball is the lowest spinning model they’ve ever made, making it the longest ball in their 5 ball lineup.
We sometimes worry when a golf ball explicitly says, “designed for low spin,” because this often means sacrificing stopping power with approaches. The VICE Pro Air combines low spin with a very high natural ball flight and steep landing angles, which gave us more than enough grip into greens.
The VICE Pro Air has a compression rating of 75, making it optimal to compress fully for slower to moderate swing speeds to generate maxed-out distance.
I personally loved how the Pro Air felt off the club face. It was super soft (no pun intended, but it did almost resemble a Callaway SuperSoft) and responsive—you can tell it’s the thinnest urethane cover VICE makes.
This excellent engineering and a sticker price that’s half that of competitors make it a perfect fit for many.

Best for Spin Control
Srixon Z-Star XV

Pros
- A premium golf ball that combines excellent feel with distance technology
- Cuts through the wind very, very well
- Trusted by multi-time Major winners
Cons
- Designed for faster swing speed, golfers explicitly
Bottom Line
The Srixon Z-Star XV is a premium golf ball designed to provide low long-game spin and distance for players with faster swing speeds. If you want an alternative to household-name premium golf balls with a focus on spin control, the XV is perfect.
Construction Style: Three piece
Colors Available: Pure White, Tour Yellow, Customize Your Own
The Srixon Z-Star XV is a premium golf ball designed for better golfers. It’s so good that multi-time Major winners Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama trust it.
The Z-Star XV is Srixon’s most ball-speed and distance-focused model, but its unique construction style still emphasizes spin in the irons and wedges.
The XV utilizes a mid-compression core with gradually firmer layers toward its exterior. These compression styles create a Rebound Effect that produces fast ball speeds and an excellent feel.
Introducing an ultra-thin Spin Skin urethane cover and coating combination aids the XV’s excellent clubface feel, creating a responsive action at impact and extra friction for more stop-and-drop power.
We personally compare the Srixon Z-Star XV to the Titleist Left Dash in terms of spin control and wind performance, and it’s marginally cheaper.
Best For Faster Ball Speed
Wilson Staff Model X

Pros
- Creates great playing conditions for faster swing-speed players
- Lowest driver spin highest iron/wedge spin ball Wilson makes
- 7 tour players are using a Wilson Staff Model golf ball
Cons
- A higher compression rating won’t benefit slower-swing-speed golfers.
Bottom Line
The Wilson Staff Model X golf ball is a premium, firm option for naturally fast-swing-speed golfers with ample control around the greens.
Construction Style: Four Piece
Colors Available: White, Yellow
The Wilson Staff Model X golf ball is the fastest premium urethane golf ball on the planet (confirmed by robotic testing), but it has a slight catch. It’s also among the highest compression golf balls available, meaning fast swingers experience its greatest benefits.
The Model X ball is Wilson’s lowest driver-spinning, highest iron- and wedge-spinning model. You might wonder, how can that be true?
The Model X’s design incorporates a firm core with a 104 compression rating (for low spin and fast ball speeds) and Wilson’s thinnest urethane cover, which provides excellent grip and control with wedges and irons.
Our Club Fitting Specialist and Product Reviewer Tyler Fitzel said, “I found the Staff Model X ball to be more suited to my needs because it was sturdy in the wind, solid in distances with every club, and had stopping power in the short game.”
If you’ve got plenty of natural speed and would like to capitalize on it, the Wilson Staff Model X is a great option.

Buying Guide: How To Choose The Right Distance Golf Ball
After a collective 10+ decades of experience in the golf field here at Independent Golf Reviews, we’ve developed a pretty keen idea of what to consider when buying in a new equipment genre, as Longest Golf Balls might be for some readers.
Here are the crucial details we factor into buying golf balls.
Feel
“Feel” describes the sensation the golf ball directs through the club during impact to a player. A few short years ago, if a golf ball was “long,” it was also “hard as hell.” That is not the case anymore.
While plenty of the golf balls on our list are on the firmer end of the spectrum, golf balls like the TaylorMade Distance+, Titleist Velocity, and Wilson Staff Model X offer a softer feel through contact if that’s what you’re after.

Spin / Cover Material
Just because our list is focused on distance doesn’t mean these picks can’t include high spin simultaneously.
Spin is directly influenced by the material used in the ball’s cover and the number of layers in its design. Golf balls that use Ionomer covers (TaylorMade Distance+ & Mizuno RB Max) do not generate as much natural spin as Urethane cover balls (all the other picks), and two-piece balls do not generate as much spin as more-layer options.

Launch Angle (High/Mid/Low)
Take a serious look at every part of your game. Do your drives resemble what you see on TV, or are they more like a piercing ball flight? Do your long irons balloon into the wind or typically launch relatively low? Do your wedges spin off the green or struggle to hold them?
Launch angle plays a critical role in every aspect of the shots described above, and the golf balls on our list can help you optimize your launch for the best performance possible.

Cost
The price of the golf balls on our list is influenced by cover material, the number of layers, and other factors.
We understand not every golfer reading this list is ballin’ on the same budget, so we covered the entire end of the distance-focused golf ball price spectrum with picks like the Titleist Velocity (9.50$ at Walmart) and the Titleist Pro V1x- (Left Dash) (6x that price).
