Sahara Dry Golf Spray Review

Sahara Dry Golf Spray is a clear grip spray that dries sweaty palms and adds a dry, tacky “stick” to your hands, glove or grips. Three quick sprays gave me a secure grip for about four hours, and it washed off after the round. It’s most useful on hot, dry or humid days when your palms sweat or your grips get slick.

The grip is where your body connects to the club, and sweaty palms, rain or worn grips make it a struggle to even make contact. Here in Arizona, the dry weather and extreme heat cause two problems: grips get dry and slick, and your palms get sweaty.

How much to use

When the little bottle arrived, I was surprised they had sent the travel size. It turned out to be the full-size 50 ml product, and Sahara Dry also sells a 120 ml size. I figured I would use it up after one round.

After a couple of sprays on both hands I realized that was all I needed. You apply just a little and it lasts all 18 holes, so I expect this bottle to last me a season or more.

Grip and stick

There’s nothing worse than feeling like the club might fly out of your hands. Squeezing the grip harder makes your swing worse, too. After three quick squirts I rubbed my hands together, and within seconds I had sticky palms.

It’s a dry sticky, which is much better than the gooey kind you get from something sugary. My palms stayed dry and grippy for all 18 holes, and you can use it on your hands, your glove or your grips.

Clean hands

Some powders claim to keep your hands sweat-free, but every one I’ve tried left my hands chalky and dirty. Some sticky products are so tacky that your hands pick up dirt and grass, which feels dirty for 18 holes.

Sahara Dry strikes a balance. It gives you stick and sweat-free hands without so much stick that your hands get dirty. Clean and dry your hands before you apply it so it works properly.

Does it make a real difference?

I was skeptical. I wear a glove, I have fresh grips and I’m not soaking wet after 18 holes, so I wondered what I could gain. It shocked me how well it worked and how sticky my hands felt.

Three little pumps created a better grip for four hours. Better grip leads to better results, for the same reason you change your grips regularly: a better connection to the club.

It seems to do more than dry your hands. If you spray your glove hand or glove as well, it keeps the glove from getting sweat-soaked during the round.

Should you buy it?

Yes, if you get sweaty palms or play in hot, humid weather like Arizona or Florida, where slippery grips are common. Sahara Dry Golf Spray keeps hands dry, clean and sticky for 18 holes. You might not need it every round, but the benefits are real. Skip it if your hands rarely sweat or you already play in a glove that grips well in the heat.
