Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder Review
Not All Lasers Are The Same…See What Makes This One Different
In a sea of hundreds of laser rangefinders, how do you pick the one that is right for you? Aren’t they basically all the same: they shoot a laser beam at a target, wait for it to come back and then the time measurement equals the yardage? While the formula is the same, the accuracy, the precision, the quality, the optics, the display and the body are all different. Then the “bells and whistles” features also make a difference. They are not all the same.
The Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder stands out in a crowded room with its crystal clear OLED display which shows the yardages in crisp, clean and easy to read numbers. The rest of the features like slope, magnet, 7x zoom, pin lock, etc all make this a great choice especially considering it comes in at $229. I used this laser during multiple rounds to acquire my distances and it never let me down.
This is my definitive Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder Review.

OLED Display
When you look through the eyepiece of any rangefinder you lock on your target and it displays the yardage. If slope is calculated it shows the adjusted numbers and potential a couple other details. Most displays are LED which give you bright red or black numbers. Just like in the TV industry the OLED screens offer brighter and crisper displays. It only makes sense that the Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder has this crisp, clear and bright OLED display for yardages. You can literally see the difference which how clean and clear the numbers look in the display. It makes a difference.

Slope Switch
The top of the Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder has the 3 control buttons. The blue one is the main power and yardage button that is used 99% of the time. The black M button is the menu button for changing from yards to meters. The black slider near the front is the slope switch which is black when slope isn’t used and shows green under it when slope is in use. While it might not be super obvious, it lets your playing partners know if you are USGA compliant or not.

7x Zoom
The Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder has 7x zoom which is great for getting locked onto the pin. It seems that lasers are either 6x zoom or 7x zoom. I prefer 7x zoom for bringing my target closer. I also have found that the price point seems to dictate which zoom a laser has. Lower cost = lower zoom. This makes this an even better bargain having both the OLED display and 7x zoom. I hit all my targets on the first try when shooting distances to flags, trees or other objects.

Mandatory Magnet
The Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder has the mandatory magnet. I don’t think you can make a laser rangefinder anymore without a magnet. I know not everyone rides in a power cart, but even walking carts and players carrying their bags have found ways to use the magnet to keep their laser at the ready. The Shot Scope magnet is strong and I never once worried about the laser falling off the cart, even through some really bumpy terrain.

Summary
Shot Scope continues to make great distance devices. I anticipate other brands copying the Shot Scope PRO L5 Laser Rangefinder’s OLED display. I liked that, along with the 7x zoom, solid case, strong magnet and reasonable price. If you are looking to upgrade your laser or jump into using a laser, this is one crisp, clear and bright display that brings the target close. At $229 you probably won’t find a better deal out there with such a full featured laser.
