The Takomo Iron 201 set was in my bag for 5 rounds of golf.

They are a direct to consumer brand that offers high quality forged irons.

Their price point is much lower than major OEMS, but they still offer tour quality performance.

This is my official Takomo Iron 201 Forged Irons Review.

Everyone wants to save money when it comes to golf.

What is a lower cost PROV1?

Where can I get a discount on my greens fees?

If I wait until next season I can get last years driver at a lower cost.

While golf can be expensive, the new Direct to Consumer model has taken off for almost every golf product.

The ability to source golf products direct from the factory has blown up in recent years.

While small brands in past lacked R&D and many of the performance that OEMs offers, that gap is closing.

Many of these Direct to Consumer factories offer in-house R&D which helps guide the process.

Passionate entrepreneurs can now start their own golf brand.

Takomo is a Finnish company that offers high quality forged irons at Direct to Consumer prices.

But do they perform?

The Takomo Iron 201 are a forged cavity back players iron.

The one area that Takomo nails it is their aesthetics.

So many Direct to Consumer brands get too busy with branding and trying to stand out from OEMs that they end up looking cheap.

Also Takomo’s investment in forged irons rather than cast irons makes a huge difference on feel.

In the Looks and Feel category, the Takomo Iron 201 irons compete with any brand; direct to consumer or OEM.

The Takomo Iron 201 Forged Irons are forged cavity back irons which are aimed at the mid to low handicap golfer.

They have minimal offset yet ample forgiveness with the deep undercut cavity.

I hate offset, but I still like forgiveness and these offer that.

The sweet spot is pretty big which allows for missing the screws from time to time without being penalized.

The deep undercut and low CG means the launch fairly high too.

The Takomo Iron 201 Forged Irons have a traditional loft and performance in terms of distance.

I didn’t need to adjust my standard yardages, but could play that comfortable club from each yardage.

I’d say they launch high and spin so that the carry yardage is very close to the total yardage.

This is helpful in scoring and overall performance with consistency where the ball finishes after each hit.

If you aim at the flag, the ball tends to stay close to where it landed.

Yes, long irons roll out some and short irons really stick, but the high launch and spin reduce the roll out compared to other irons set.

The Takomo Iron 201 Forged irons come standard 4-PW.

They are best suited for the lower mid handicap golfer.

They have very sharp lines and just a touch of “thick” all the way around.

They don’t look like skinny little blades which adds to some confidence at address.

The “beef” really feel solid and the sharp edges interact with the turf nicely.

The leading edge is slightly “worn” so that they don’t dig, but they are sharp enough to cut a healthy divot if you want.

The sole is just a little beefier than some cavity back players irons, but this just add to some forgiveness and launch.

The Takomo Iron 201 Forged Irons are perfect for the mid to low handicap golfer that is looking to have a great set of forged irons that perform, but don’t break the bank.

I shot great scores with them even though they are 1/2 the price of comparable irons from the major golf brands.

They do offer controlled worakability of shots with still plenty of forgiveness.

You can curve it/work it some, but not extreme.

That baby fade or slight draw will look great, but not go sideways.

The Takomo Iron 201 Forged Irons come stock with KBS tour shafts or you can build your own by ordering heads only.

KBS Tours have become industry standard with great feel and easy launch.

Paired with these heads they certainly offer high launch and soft landings.

From top to bottom these clubs are easy to hit.

I found the 4-iron to be good at long distance as well as a safe bet to find the middle of the fairway off the tee.

The scoring clubs really stuck the greens nicely.

The gapping also matched up nicely so that all the clubs felt good for their average distances.

The factory build is very high quality and the stock Lamkin grips top off an OEM like package.

In terms of bang for the buck, you’d be hard pressed for find a better deal.

These might be a great way for an aspiring golfer on a budget to try a forged players irons without the major investment.
