Takomo Skyforger 002 Wedges Review
A Full Array of Features At Half The Price
Golf equipment prices keep going up.
There are numerous factors at work, but the days of reasonably priced golf gear are passing us by and just like everything else around us, the prices are skyrocketing.
Yet, golfer still like new shiny clubs that promise better performance than their 5 year old models.
It can be a hard balance between playing the best clubs and affording them.
Takomo offers the best of both worlds with high performance new clubs at about 1/2 the price of major OEMs.
The Takomo Skyforger 002 Wedges are forged heads, have all the loft options you could want, multiple grind choices, and full face grooves.
They compete with whatever wedge you find at your local golf store, but are 1/2 the price.
If you wedges needs some replacing, these should be at the top of your list to check out not only because of price, but also performance.
I tested these wedges over 7 rounds of golf as well as in the iGR Carls Place DIY Simulator with FlightScope Mevo+ Pro Launch Monitor.

Forged Wedges
While cast clubs have come a long way in terms of feel, there is still something special about hitting a forged club.
Most wedges have gone the way of cast since it is cheaper and tends to offer a little more flexibility for design.
The Takomo Skyforger 002 Wedges are just as their name suggests: forged. This means that you can get a forged wedge, which is rare in the industry, and you can get at 1/2 the price of a cast wedge.
This sounds like a win-win situation.
Even though they offer a soft feel at impact, I was impressed with their durability when it came to bag chatter and dings.
Still looking great after 7 rounds.

Full Face Grooves
Full face grooves are not something new.
I have some hickory clubs from 1910 that have full face grooves on them, but they’ve really only made a resurgence in the last 5 years.
I believe Phil Mickelson brought them back with his specialty grinds.
Now just about everyone has them on some special variation of a wedge.
I think 90% of time you shouldn’t need them, but maybe a creative shot here or there.
The entire Takomo Skyforger 002 Wedges line has full faced grooves.
I think this look is growing on me.
I don’t know if I need the groove all the way to the edge of the face, but if I do, I’ve got them.

Grind Options
Typically a lower price point wedge will limit your options to a single grind and standard lofts.
The Takomo Skyforger 002 Wedges have all the even lofts from 46-60.
Most come in either the F grind or the V grind. You can mix and match according to your needs.
I went 50F/54V/58V. These are the best fit for my game.
I’ve been impressed with how nicely these pick the ball off of tight lies or dig down in the deep grass to pop it out with spin.
I’ve chipped in now a couple times with the 58V too.
All in all I’ve been impressed with the grinds for crisp clean turf interaction.

On-Course Performance
How does a $99 wedge compare to the OEMs’ $200 wedge?
I have to admit I’ve been impressed with the on-course performance of the Takomo Skyforger 002 Wedges.
I’ve been able to hit all the shots: flops, spinners, nippers, bumps, pitches, etc.
I like the headshape at address which has a nice hosel to leading edge transition.
They have a good overall shape that offers confidence.
While I’m still getting used to looking down at full faced grooves, they put nice spin on the ball that is repeatable and controllable.
I’d put these up against any OEM wedge and they go toe to toe.

Summary
The Takomo Skyforger 002 Wedges come in a full array of options, are forged, have full face grooves and perform as good as anything out there, yet come in at $99 per wedge.
I think this is a hard combo to beat for value vs performance.
I’ve been impressed by the results while enjoying the feel.
Takomo also has these wedges looking sharp with their minimal branding and logo.
If you need to upgrade your wedges (which you probably do) these are one of the best choices for 2025.
