Tanso Golf 449-CB Forged Irons Review
Introducing Forged Players Distance Irons With DTC Prices
If you haven’t heard of Tanso Golf before it is because they are a brand new DTC golf company. However, their owner/founder/designer Eric Burch is a golf industry veteran. He’s worked for numerous “big name” brands and had built up other brands from scratch. He is jumping back into the golf world with the launch of Tanso Golf. Tanso is the word “Carbon” in Japanese. All of the Tanso Golf irons are triple forged 1020 carbon steel with his unique design. Eric offers something not found in other DTC brands in terms of design, customization and access to the designer/owner/founder.
The Tanso Golf 449-CB Forged Irons are a forged players distance iron at DTC prices with surprising good looks, plenty of distance and ample forgiveness. While a number of DTC brands make an iron in this category, this might just be the biggest surprise in terms of looks and forgiveness. These simply go long and straight.
I tested a 5,7,9 set of these on the course for a few rounds, as well as on the FlightScope Mevo Gen2 Launch Monitor.
This is my definitive Tanso Golf 449-CB Forged Irons Review.

Tanso Design
Tanso Golf’s founder, Eric Burch has been designing clubs for a few decades now. He knows what he is doing and has refined his craft over the years. The Tanso Golf 449-CB Forged Irons are proof that by combining stronger lofts, forged head, lots of muscle behind the ball and a cavity back iron can create a players distance iron that looks surprisingly good in-person. I initially thought from online photos that these were thick and chunky irons, but they are far more compact and good looking at every angle.
They have serious muscle right behind the sweet spot, but a deep cavity to create launch and forgiveness. I was even impressed that these had a thinner top line at address too. The offset is more than the 249-MB and 349-CB, but still moderate so that even better golfers won’t mind looking down at these at address. They have even a more aggressive sole grind than the other irons for really nice turf interaction.

CB Distance
The Tanso Golf 449-CB Forged Irons by design are for mid handicap golfers and those looking for distance and forgiveness. These irons are about a club longer than their friends in the Tanso Golf line up. The stronger lofts paired with high launch and extra muscle behind the sweet spot just launches the ball into orbit. While limited to 5,7, or 9-iron shots, I did find them to be very long and straight. I wasn’t shaping too many shots with these, but much more aim and hit. The offset is certainly helpful for many golfers get the clubhead square.
These irons fit a wide range of golfers, especially the golfer looking for distance, forgiveness and feel at a DTC price. They come stock with a super stable, but lighter weight DG Mid 100 shaft which helps create some clubhead speed without sacrificing accuracy. But one of the other DTC benefits are the custom build options to fit your exact needs like lie angles, lofts, lengths and shafts. Use the Ai fitting tool to get exactly what you need for your game.

Tanso Forged Difference
There are 3 Tanso Golf irons: 249-MB, 349-CB and 449-CB. (RH models) They are all forged of 1020 Carbon Steel so that you can have exceptional feel with all of them. There is simply nothing better than well struck forged iron. But what makes the Tanso Golf 449-CB Forged Irons special is that you also get tons of forgiveness and distance without giving up feel. These are really pure and don’t even feel that bad on miss hits.

449-CB Performance
The Tanso Golf 449-CB Forged Irons are in the new category called players distance irons which means they are long, forgiving, but still fairly compact at address. These are for golfers looking to squeeze everything out of their swing that they can. I found them about a club longer than my standard distances while consistently wanting to go straight where I aimed. They do hit the ball high, even though they have strong lofts. The whole face is rather forgiving. Since I was testing the 5,7,9 combo I paired them with an OEM brand players distance irons and they went toe to toe with a set twice as expensive.

Summary
The Tanso Golf 449-MB Forged Irons combine distance, forgiveness, feel, and surprisingly good looks at DTC pricing. Eric Burch is a hands-on owner/designer/founder who will answer any questions to get you into the best fitting set. The Tanso Golf Ai fitting program is spot on too so that you can let the computer do the heavy lifting when it comes to fitting. These irons are perfect for a large percentage of golfers who need more distance and forgiveness without sacrificing feel. I was impressed by their looks and performance.
