The Rope Club Training Aid Review
Does Tempo Practice Make It Good Practice?
A key aspect of the golf swing that everyone talks about but maybe doesn’t get the training focus as other parts of the swing is tempo. If you have a herky-jerky swing it tends to have poor results. Comments like I got too quick on that one, I turned to early, or I didn’t fire the hips, etc all deal with tempo. We all wish our swings looked like Fred Couples when it comes to tempo. I have tested a few training aids that used sounds to try and teach tempo, but none of those worked.
The Rope Club Training Aid is really good at teaching tempo since it doesn’t have a shaft to connect the grip to the head, but rather a rope. This forces the golfer to sync up the take away and the transition back into the downswing so that they are timed up properly. Because of the foam “club head” and rope shaft, this training aid can be used just about anywhere, even if you don’t have the “impact spinner”. But does tempo training make it good training? I tested this for over a month to see what happened.
This is my definitive The Rope Club Training Aid Review.

The Rope Club
A grip, a rope, and a foam “club head” are the parts that make up The Rope Club. It is designed like a 7-irons in terms of length and weight. You can swing it without worrying about breaking things. The limp rope allows you to feel the weight at the end of the club and this is designed to improve your tempo without being able to trick the club because of a stiff shaft. The rope lets you know if you jerked it, cast it, or got all discombobulated during the swing. You can really tell if you swing is synced up or if your tempo is off.

The Impact Spinner
While The Rope Club Training Aid is sold with or without the Impact Spinner, I highly recommend getting the combo to get the most out of your training. It is a simple square of turf, with a metal post and what looks like a small flag on it. It is designed to practice the point of impact with The Rope Club. As you set up with the impact spinner where you’d have the ball with the flag pointing at you, you can swing the rope club for practice and hit the impact spinner. It is surprisingly loud at impact and builds confidence. The soft feel at impact won’t lead to fatigue while training.

Practice Benefits?
The Rope Club is really nice to work on tempo training. They have a 10 video series that has multiple drills to get you a better tempo and to get the most out of your training sessions. But this isn’t a beginners training aid because if they practice with this over and over with their incorrect swing, it will just be ingrained in their mind. I found myself not sure if I was doing it right because it didn’t seem to matter what I did during the swing, I could smack the impact spinner. I do believe that any practice is probably good practice, but this one takes some already good fundamentals to get the benefits of better tempo.

Summary
The Rope Club Training Aid is different and safe and really good at working on tempo but it is not a beginner’s training aid. This is going to be great for the mid to low handicap golfer that has good swing mechanics, but poor tempo. If you need to smooth out your swing The Rope Club has the potential to help. It is a safe, compact and satisfying swing training aid, especially when you loudly smack the impact spinner. If you are looking to add some swing training this off-season and want something gentle on your body, safe to use anywhere and tempo is your biggest problem, then this is perfect.
