REVIEW: Titleist '21 Pro V1 and Pro V1x Ball

Did the #1 Ball in Golf Just Get Better?
Titleist just released a new version of Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls for 2021. Every year golf companies claim “new and improved”, but I’m looking at Titleist a little differently now than I had before because they actually did it. I was able to speak with two individuals from the Titleist golf ball division about the new models and learn about the advances which make what Titleist has done with these golf balls even more impressive. Find out how the #1 ball in golf just got better through experimentation and innovation.
Let me take you back to the Titleist EXP-01 Prototype ball. For the most part the EXP-01 became the Tour Speed golf ball in the Titleist lineup. Why is this important? Because the cover of that golf ball is a Proprietary Thermoplastic Urethane cover which was specifically developed to test for improving other golf balls in the future. The EXP-01 was also testing new core designs and dimple patterns to achieve a more specific flight of the golf ball. Fast forward to the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x – completely redesigned golf balls with advanced technology in the core, cover and dimple pattern.
New competitors are constantly coming out and claiming they make balls that can compete directly with the Pro V1 such as the Cut Blue Ball. We compared them to see if there is any truth to their claims and it seems the Pro V1 still reigns supreme.

What you need to know – The Pro V1 features longer distance than the prior model, very low long game spin, penetrating flight, even more Drop-and-Stop™ greenside control and softer feel. The Pro V1x delivers the same expected longer distance than the prior model, low long game spin, high consistent flight and the most Drop-and-Stop™ greenside control with the softest cover formulation ever used on a Pro V1x.

Performance – One of the first questions I ask customers in a fitting is what ball they play. The answer is usually whatever is in the bag or a specific golf ball (i.e. Pro V1). The follow up to the answer is why? For people playing the Pro V1 or Pro V1x, there are differences and this knowledge could you play better on the course. I put the new golf balls to the test for some initial data and here is what I found.

Takeaway – Just as Titleist has described the New Pro V1 and Pro V1x in terms of flight and spin characteristics, it holds true to what I found in my testing data. The Pro V1x would be a better ball for my game in trying to gain a bit more spin for launch and carry with my driver, while providing the same great performance with the rest of my clubs. If you get the chance to hit both of these new golf balls, you may find as I did the first and noticeable difference is in sound and feel. The Pro V1 is quiet and soft off the club face, while the Pro V1x is a bit louder and has more of a click noise.

Titleist has re engineered both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x from the core to the cover with amazing results. It has already won several professional tournaments around the world and we aren’t even done with the first month in 2021. Titleist has also given us a new way to purchase golf balls on Titleist.com. You can order different colors and add customization to any model they make. Just one more reason Titliest is the #1 Ball in Golf.
