If you are convinced you can’t play blades, then the next best thing are clubs that look similar to blades at address but have forgiveness in the cavity.

The Wilson Staff Model CB Irons are the “Goldilocks” irons for good ball-strikers who aren’t quite consistent enough or confident enough to play blades, but want a timeless compact look with great feel and forgiveness.

These still offer the traditional lofts like the blades so they can played as a combo set too.

These are a perfect blend of feel, looks, performance and especially forgiveness.

I tested these on the course for 4 rounds, hit them at the range, and worked indoors with them on the launch monitor in the iGR Office Simulator by Carl’s Place Golf.

2026 Update

The 2026 Wilson iron line up is absolutely killer.

The Blades (review here) were a shot makers dream with some improved distance and looks.

The XB irons are the best irons for the widest range of golfers combining good looks and distance.

The new DYNAPWR Forged Irons offer the most distance of any iron you can play, but still great feel and looks.

The Wilson Staff Model CB Irons are the “Goldilocks” of the whole group.

They are the just right irons for good ball-strikers.

They are a nice update to the previous CB irons with again a little more pop, a nice clean look and ample forgiveness.

Timeless Design With Modern Forgiveness

The key to Wilson’s timeless design, yet making it modern, has to do with the hidden weight movement.

They call it precise mass movement which slides the weight out toward the toe so that the CG is center behind the ball.

The CB model has this weight hidden in the sole, and moved toward the perimeter.

It makes these irons feel amazing, yet perform even better. I get a little more distance and even more forgiveness.

If you can’t game the blades, the CBs might be perfect for the good ball-striker.

Why These Are The Goldilocks For Ball-Strikers?

The Goldilocks story centers on not to hot, not too cold, just right… The Wilson Staff Model CB Irons are not too big, not too small, not too demanding, not too game improvement, they are just right.

While high handicap golfers need more game improvement irons, better ball strikers that don’t have the consistency or confidence to play blades are going to find these just right.

They have good launch, great feel and tons of forgiveness.

They are still compact in size which is great to look down at, but play much bigger.

You aren’t going to gain a bunch of yards with these irons, instead you get precise shots that can be shaped a little without the penalty of blades.

These could also work great in a combo set as the 4 iron and 5 iron (6 iron too) are easy to launch with excellent forgiveness.

If straight consistent irons shots that have good height and stop quickly is your need, then these are the irons for you.

Improved Performance

The Wilson Staff Model CB Irons are redesigned allowing good ball strikers to get improved performance and improved forgiveness.

I really like how easy these were to hit high and control the spin.

Even though they retained the traditional lofts the adjustment to the mass in the CB was just enough to increase distance for me over previous models.

I was even more confident with these in the bag as they offer everything a good ball-striker is looking for with even more forgiveness.

Summary

The Wilson Staff Model CB Irons are the “Goldilocks” irons that good ball-strikers are looking for: compact shape, soft forged feel, good distance and lots of forgiveness.

If you are not a “blade” golfer, these might be the next best thing.

The turf interaction is great with nice sole camber, plus the improved CG makes paired with the forged head makes them feel great and go the distances you need.

You can get high quality results with good swings. Wilson really nailed these irons for lower handicap golfers.
