Review: Antigua Desert Dry Shirts
Bring on the heat
Golf is best enjoyed in the warm summer weather, but this also means that it can get rather hot on the golf course. While the warm weather is nice, the perspiration and overheating can be too much. A shirt that can aid in moisture-wicking and cooling can be essential to a round of golf during the warm summer months.
Antigua has been making golf polos for years and most recently introduced their “desert dry” line. Manufacturing in AZ gives them insight in dealing with the heat. They use a polyester blend to create their version of the moisture-wicking, breathable shirt.
As I browsed through their online catalog I was amazed at the variety of shirts. I think I found every single color in just about every single style imaginable. If you can't find what you are looking for, it is because you didn't look hard enough, I'm sure it is there.
On the course the shirt that I wore was the all black striped polo. It felt very nice to the touch and served about as good as any dry fit shirt I have ever put on. Even though the shirt was black, it didn't absorb as much heat as I expected. It was comfortable all by itself on the really hot days, and over my underarmour gear on the cooler days, it worked well too. The collar stayed down nice and flat. It also found that it was long enough to stay tucked in for the entire round.
The fit is a little on the large side, maybe a ½ size bigger than normal. It was fairly wide through the shoulders and midsection. If you like a more European look, go at least one size smaller, you might even consider two sizes smaller.
At the $65 retail price they are in line with most other brands and models. I think you get a great shirt at a mid range price. These shirts are designed in the desert for the desert heat. So go ahead, bring on the heat, you will be happy in your Antigua shirts, as it will keep you drier and cooler than most.
