The BIG MAX Dri Lite Silencio 2 Cart Bag is a cart bag with a molded 14-way top that gives every club its own slot, so your clubs stay quiet and chatter-free for all 18 holes. It also has 12 pockets and water-resistant Dri Lite material. Over multiple rounds it cut bag chatter on my irons to zero, and it was a pleasure to ride quietly down the path.

The molded top makes it a tall bag, and it’s built for carts rather than carrying. If you’re tired of clubs clanging against each other, this is the bag to look at.

A quiet 14-way top

Clanging clubs are one of the more annoying sounds on a course, and they also put chatter marks on your irons. Nobody wants to be the “iron cover” guy because his irons look well used after one round. The Silencio 2’s uniquely molded top keeps the clubs from banging together, no matter how bumpy the path is or how hard you push the cart.

How the slots work

The top is a molded slot system that holds nine irons in a fan around the rim and four woods down the center. A large putter well sits at the end of the fan, which carries all 14 clubs safely and quietly. A grip hole paired with each iron slot lets clubs go in and out easily.

I would have liked a 10-iron fan, since I play a 4-iron through pitching wedge plus three wedges, which is ten iron-like clubs. I made it work, and because nothing was moving around, the unmolded slot handled my 58° wedge without noise. The center slots worked well for my woods and putter, and I even found room for my alignment sticks.

Pockets and storage

The bag has 12 pockets, and they’re all pretty big, which is more than most of us should fill for a round. Three large spine pockets hold balls, tees and a rangefinder. Each side has four: a lined valuables pocket, a cooler pocket that holds about three cans comfortably, upper slot pockets for accessories and a very large pocket for extra shoes or rain gear.

A “secret” pocket labeled rain hood works for that or for a spare battery for an electric push cart. Large loop toggles on every zipper make them easy to open and close.

Is it waterproof?

BIG MAX lists the Silencio 2 as water-resistant, with waterproof zippers. It isn’t 100% waterproof, which is nearly impossible with a golf bag, but it repels almost all the water and kept my clubs and gear dry.

My Arizona rounds are mostly dry, but a pop-up monsoon can still soak a bag, and this is a useful feature if you play in damp conditions. The bag has logo and accent colors that look good.

Molded bottom

The bottom is molded to ride on either a power cart or a push cart. A slot on the base locks into most push cart bag holders so the bag doesn’t move or rotate. On the back of a power cart, it rides like a normal cart bag, and it stands well off the cart in the parking lot or the office.

Height and trunk fit

This is a tall bag, because the molded top has to sit higher to hold the club heads. The height doesn’t matter much, but the strap slots are a touch high for US carts. The standard strap height sat about an inch below the slots, and the bag rode a bit taller on a push cart without hurting how it worked.

I drive a MINI Cooper and already take the driver and 3-wood out to fit my clubs in the boot, and this bag was no different. It still fit in the trunk fine. Despite the height, the handles and carry straps balance nicely for carrying it to and from the car.

Should you buy it?

Yes, if you ride or push a cart and want to protect your clubs, play quietly and carry a lot of gear. The BIG MAX Dri Lite Silencio 2 Cart Bag kept my clubs in place and silent for 18 holes, and the 12 pockets held everything I needed.

Skip it if you carry your clubs, because this is an 8.16 lb cart bag. The Dri Lite Hybrid Plus is the BIG MAX bag with legs and straps, and the Silencio 3 builds on the same idea. More on bigmaxgolf.com.

How it compares

Questions golfers ask

Is the BIG MAX Dri Lite Silencio 2 waterproof?

BIG MAX lists it as water-resistant, with waterproof zippers. It isn't 100% waterproof, but in my use it repelled almost all the water and kept my clubs and gear dry.

It has 12: three large spine pockets and four on each side, including a lined valuables pocket, a cooler pocket and a rain hood pocket that also fits a spare push cart battery.

Yes. A recess in the base locks into most push cart holders so the bag doesn't rotate, and it rides like a normal cart bag on a power cart.
