I played 5 rounds of golf with the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Hybrid in my bag. It is one of the larger sized hybrid and it has 3 rails.  This is a combo for success for many golfers because it will bring some fun to their hybrid game.  I was also able to hit it on my FlightScope Xi Tour Launch Monitor to collect shot data. I have over 10 years of experience testing and reviewing golf clubs.

Here is my overall experience and thoughts on this hybrid.

Virtually every amatuer golfer has a hybrid in their bag; some even have more than one.   The style of hybrid ranges from a compact utility iron to a large fairway wood style hybird.  The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Hybrid is one of the largest and most fairway wood like hybrids you can buy.  In terms of size, it is really about the same as  most 5-woods or 7-woods.  It is big, thus the XL  name.   But the loft and length of the club still say hybrid.  Many golfers already have confidence in their hybrids, this one gives you even more.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Hybrid is in the next evolution in the Launcher family.  It has one of the largest footprints of any hybrid I’ve had in the bag.  I remember days when this club would have been bigger than my driver of years past.  While the actual cc aren’t huge, it look pretty big behind the ball.  Given that it is call an XL I suppose that shouldn’t come as a surprise.  The large footprint still looks good behind the ball with the stepped crown and the rear of the crown detail.  The alignment aids help point the club in the right direction.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo hybrid has an oval almost rectangle face.  As you can see from this picture it is a flat and wide face.  I bring this up since many hybrids have moved to a high toe looks which doesn’t appeal to all golfers.  This one is more fairway wood like in the face shape.  It is tall enough yet thin enough to feel confident hitting the ball from any lie, fairway or rough.  The width of the face makes it also very forgiving.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo hybrid has 3 large Gliderails that run from the face to back of the sole.  This isn’t the first hybrid to have rails.  I’m personally a big fan of the rails since I’ve found them to help with turf interaction for both a smooth glide along the surface as well as “rudder” like action through the turf.  The 3 really keep the weight low and balanced.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo hybrid offers excellent all around on-course performance.  The low CG from the  3 rails and back weight mean it is easy to launch high.  The turf interaction is really good so it resists twisting at impact too which also aids to straight shots.  The spin, launch and rails all keep this head point in the right direction.  It isn’t the longest hybrid out there, but it certainly is one of straightest and easiest to hit.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo hybrid has super lightweight shaft in the Cypher by Project X.  It also comes stock with an 8gram counterbalance which is designed to stop “casting”.  This will help golfers who slice the ball.  While personally it messes with my timing and feel, it benefits many “slicers”.  The shaft itself has a good feel and nice launch and is actually quite stable for such a lightweight shaft.  I personally like a heavier shaft in my hybrids to feel more iron like, but to generate a little more speed, the weight of this shaft makes it easier.
