The FootJoy BOA Pro/SLX Golf Shoes were served as my golf shoes for 5 rounds of golf.   These spikeless shoes have a unique tread on the sole, an extra wide sole design, very supportive Chromoskin leather and BOA Fit System for the ultimate stable and supportive spikeless golf shoe.  If you need a spikeless shoes that really functions like a spiked golf shoes, these are a great option.

This is the definitive FootJoy Pro/SLX BOA Golf Shoes Review for 2024.

BOA

I wish they call could have BOA Fit System.  I think I say that about every shoe I own that doesn’t have BOA.  I believe this is the best “lacing” system you can have in your shoes.  FootJoy has incorporated the BOA Fit System into their shoes for years and the signature FootJoy usage is placing the Li2 BOA dial on the heel.  This creates downward and back pull of the fit system and keeps it mostly hidden from sight.  I love how easy these shoes are to get on and off because of the twist to fit and lift of the BOA dial to release completely.  Each click of the BOA Fit System makes micro adjustments to the tension so that you can get it dialed in way better than laces, plus it stays that way the entire round.  Upgrade to BOA in the FootJoy Pro/SLX Golf Shoes.

PWR TRX

The FootJoy Pro/SLX BOA Golf Shoes have a unique spikeless sole.  Usually we see little nubs or lugs covering the entire sole of spikeless shoes.  The FootJoy PWR TRX sole however just have “spikes” around the perimeter call the Race Trak.  At first glance I thought that this could be problematic when I walk, twist or swing.  I often feel like I really torque on the middle of the sole of my foot.  I guess I was wrong, because I didn’t slip once and actually felt incredibly stable during the most aggressive of swings.  The PWR TRX system totally works for traction and since the sole itself extends beyond the edge of the shoes, it is very stable too.

3D X-Wing

The middle of the FootJoy Pro/SLX BOA Golf Shoes have a big X plate called the 3D X-Wing. It is another stabilizing feature of this shoe which keeps all the twisting of the foot in check while still allowing good flex while walking.  The X pattern certainly is based on swing and walking needs of golfers. spiked shoes.  While I’ve mainly moved to spikeless shoes for most of my golf rounds, every now and then I like to gain the confidence and traction of a spiked shoe.  If conditions aren’t ideal, these offer the best traction you can get.  I didn’t slip a single time and the soles of these shoes maintain clean connected traction on every step in any conditions.  While casual rounds you can get by with spikeless shoes because it isn’t that big of deal if you slip, but for tournament rounds having the confidence and traction of these shoes is a must.

ChromoSkin Leather

The FootJoy Pro/SLX BOA Golf Shoes have ChromoSkin Leather.  It is a waterproof and supportive leather that holds up really well to aggressive swings.  However this means that they are stiff and take some time to break in.  I noticed it in the toe area of these shoes.  The leather just isn’t as supple and flexible as other shoes.  They had some unnecessary rub on my toes as I was walking 18 holes.  Even after 36 holes I still felt the stiffness.  This is annoying, but is part of the the stable and supportive nature of these shoes.  Since they are spikeless I did spend some off course work to help break them in, but it really took too much time of wearing them and getting through the rubbing and pinching on the top of my foot.  However the good part about this is that these shoes are tough and durable and the investment in these shoes will last a long time.

Stratofoam and FTF+

The FootJoy Pro/SLX BOA Golf Shoes have 2 foams to create a soft yet supportive walk for all 18 holes.   I found the balance of these foams make it soft for the walk, but supportive enough to not feel mushy.  You get a solid connection to the ground for swinging, but soft cushion on each step finding that happy balance between the two foams in the sole of these shoes.

Performance

The FootJoy Pro/SLX BOA Golf Shoes were very friendly to my scorecard.  While it may be purely coincidental, but I shot good scores every time I wore these shoes. I was surprised at how solid and connected my golf swing felt while wearing them.  I’m not I’m ready to  conclude that golf shoes make a monumental difference, but as we’ve seen from Tour players changing shoes, there might be something to be said about the support and stability while swinging that seemed to help create solid contact, shot after shot.  I wish the leather had been a little more broken in for my post round comfort, but certainly that stiffness kept my feet in place and my swing firmly grounded for all 18 holes.

Summary

The FootJoy Pro/SLX BOA Golf Shoes have one of the best combinations of stability and support in a spikeless shoe.  The BOA Fit System allows you to dial the fit in perfectly for your feet.  The only bummer was the multiple rounds it took to break them in. However the on-course performance was hard to argue with.  The unique spikeless sole works amazingly well as does the X-Wing stability.  The combination of stiffness, yet soft foams make for a connected swing, yet soft walk.  I’d wear these around a few times to get them ready for 18 holes, and then enjoy the stability and support these shoes offer.  I’d also get the BOA Fit System upgrade for the perfect fit and support.
