I acquired distances for shots during my last 6 rounds with the Shot Scope ZR Laser Rangefinder.  It is a new laser designed to compete with the best in the business.  It does so with incredible durability and the features golfers are looking for in a laser rangefinder at a better price point.

This is the definitive Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder Review for 2024.

Durability

The Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder has incredible durability so that it keeps giving accurate distance, even if you don’t give it proper care..  It has a DuraSheild hardshell which allows it to withstand the abuse we inflict on our rangefinder.  While I know we all try to take care of our gear, but the laser gets tossed on the ground, falls out of our hands, gets handled by our buddies, ends up bouncing around in the cart or the bottom of our bag.  At the end of the day we are not the only ones who are hard on the laser but weather can takes its toll on lasers too.  The PRO ZR is IPx5 rated for water.  This is one durable laser rangefinder that can handle whatever conditions you use it in.

Laser Accuracy

The Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder is an extremely accurate laser rangefinder.  I found this one to shoot the same distance every time I pushed the button.  Obviously when I’m on different holes it will shoot a different distance, but if I stand in one spot and keep shooting to the same flag without moving, I got the same distance every time.  This is huge as a confidence builder.  I hate using a laser and seeing it vary by a yard or 2 with every push of the button.  The Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder is one of the most accurate lasers I’ve ever used compared to others and against itself.

On-Course Options

The Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder has 2 options that I think are “must haves” in 2024 when it comes to a laser rangefinder: Black or Red display and Slope or no Slope.  There is a dedicated button on the top spine to switch back and forth from black to red.  While in the bright AZ sun it makes sense to have it set to black, if the clouds roll in or I’m playing at twilight, the red setting is ideal.  It is about preference and options to be able to choose the display color.  The Slope slider is on the side and makes it obvious when you have slope on or have it off.  This too has pretty much become standard.  It like how it shows clearly which way to slide it for Slope on.  Since most of us play golf in non-tournament rounds, leaving slope on makes sense and helps our chances of hitting the right distance.

Features

The Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder has 3 other features that I appreciate: 6x magnification, magnetic cart hold and CR2 battery.  While these features are found in some lasers, I think this should be the standard for top lasers.  I like good clear magnification so I can easily spot the flag and lock in the laser.  The magnetic side panel is a must in AZ since so many rounds are riding.  I also love the CR2 battery compared to USB rechargeable since it is easy to carry a spare battery which usually lasts an entire season anyways, but this way you don’t worry about the charge since it last so long on a single battery.

$299 Price Point

The Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder has a $299 price tag which makes it one of the most affordable high-end laser rangefinders.  While I know you can get distances for like $75 with some off brand laser on Amazon, but if you want quality there are only a few top tier models out there and most are around $500.  The Shot Scope PRO ZR is just as good as those more expensive ones (if not better) for a much lower price point.  In a world where we are often looking for the lower cost “ProV1” this is your lower cost top laser rangefinder.  It does everything extremely well and has every feature you want in a laser rangefinder.

Summary

The Shot Scope PRO ZR Laser Rangefinder offers a combination of durability, accuracy and affordability.  The entire kit is high quality from the case to the on-course functions.  It has every feature that golfers want and need in a laser rangefinder.  The PRO ZR competes against the best and comes out a winner.  If you are looking to upgrade your laser, the Shot Scope PRO ZR laser rangefinder might just be the best model for 2024.
