I used the Srixon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood for 5 rounds of golf.  This is the updated version of Srixon’s Fairway Wood for 2023.  They make one model and this 3-wood offers all-around great performance for every situation and every need. Testing was on-course, at the range, and indoors in the iGR Office by Carls Place DIY Sim which collected data on my FlightScope MEVO+ Launch Monitor.

Here is my overall experience and thoughts on the Srixon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood.

All-Around Performance

Fairway woods have often gone the way of drivers in terms of technology and performance.  This often leads to multiple models to address specific needs, like low spin, draw bias, high launch, etc.  However not everyone needs all those specialties, even if they need them in their driver.  Srixon has stuck with a single fairway wood model for numerous  season now and the Srixon ZX Mk II is one of their best all around performing 3-woods.

Glued Hosel

The Srixon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood has a glued hosel.  While this reduces adjustments, it also reduces adjustment confusion.  So many golfers have adjustable hosels and never adjust them anyways so it is just taking up weight that could be used in other places.  Srixon takes that weight and positions it precisely on the sole for maximum speed and forgiveness.

Stepped Carbon Crown

The Srixon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood continues with a Carbon Crown which also has a Step Crown which steps down the carbon crown from the taller face.  This pushes mass low which helps with MOI, launch and forgiveness.  They can manipulate the mass more since the crown is so light, yet strong.   It sits very square behind the all at address. The Carbon Crown is visible and the little white accent paint on the rear for the crown which frame the ball and shot nicely.

Face with Rebound Frame

The Srixon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood has a Ti51AF Titanium alloy construction face.  This means lightweight and flexible.  It is hot!  The face is thin so you can feel confident behind the ball whether it is the tee, fairway or rough.   The face has plenty of forgiveness to go with its speed so you can hit long shot after long shot with confidence and success.   It really shines because the face is paired with Rebound Frame which has dual flex zones.  They describe it as a spring within a spring.  Essentially the sole of the club is designed to flex and transfer energy back to the face on every shot, whether perfectly hit or slightly off center.  The dual flex zones engage with the help of a titanium ring in the body which stiffens the body to snap back into shape which transfers energy back to the face of the club and ultimately the ball.

Success

The Srixon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood was successful on the course.  It might not have any one WOW factor, but it simply does everything well.  The launch is easy and pleasing to the eye, the flight is straight and controllable from every lie and the distance was really good.  It lead to confidence and success.  When your driver goes crooked, this club came to the rescue with fairway finding tee shots or recovery long shots from the rough.  It could attack pins from the fairway from long distance.  It simply did everything well without any one thing standing out.

Shaft

The Srixon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood comes with a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Red shaft.  It is a very good mid launch shaft in 60 grams which is light and easy to launch for a very pleasant launch.  It is mid spin so it is going to offer all-around performance with a smooth tight feel.  This shaft can accomodate smooth swings as well as aggressive swings.  There are custom options too for no-upcharge as well as exotic shafts for full up-charge prices.

Summary

Srixon stuck with their single fairway wood for 2023 which offers all-around solid performance for a large percentage of golfers.  The Srizon ZX Mk II Fairway Wood might not fit very specialized needs, but if you want a 3-wood that hits the ball straight, launches easily and you don’t need all sorts of adjustment, then this club might lead to success on the course.  Srixon created a very solid choice for your 2023 long game.
