Stitch MIY SL2 Golf Bag Review

The Stitch MIY SL2 Golf Bag is a lightweight stand bag you design online, choosing the chassis, GT Saddle Pocket and strap colors. I carried it for a handful of rounds, and it works as well as it looks, with a 4-way top, roomy pockets, a leather-look fabric and a comfortable strap. At 99 ounces it’s light, but it isn’t the lightest stand bag.

MIY stands for Make It Yours, and the bag is built on Stitch’s SL2. I enjoyed picking the details to fit my design eye, and it rode well on both power and push carts.

How the Make It Yours bag works

Have you ever wanted to design your own golf bag? Stitch’s MIY series lets you pick the colors on its SL2 stand bag, and you can add initials for more personalization. It’s personal without being a fully custom bag. Two chassis colors can be paired with a range of GT Saddle Pocket colors, and you choose the strap color too.

The 4-way top divider

The bag has a 4-way, full-length top divider. I usually gravitate toward 14-way tops for organization, but I can appreciate a 4-way top that gets the job done well. I see it as woods and putter in one section, irons in two and wedges in the fourth.

The angular design means the irons separate from the middle to the sides, so they stack on top of each other nicely while the woods and wedges fill the middle. The molded top handle is perfect for picking up the bag.

GT Saddle Pockets and storage

The GT Saddle Pocket is a three-pocket saddle that opens up to hold plenty of gear, and Stitch says it has 50% more storage space than the original SL2. The saddle pockets are big enough for extra golf balls or any other gear you need. The more you put in, the heavier the bag gets, but it’s nice to have ample storage in a compact stand bag.

The spine pocket is magnetic and works great for golf balls, a rangefinder or anything you want to reach quickly, and Stitch says it holds up to 12 balls. There’s an inner zipper for your wallet and an insulated slot on one side for a beverage bottle. The heavy-duty zippers are easy to work.

Touring fabric and weather

The bag is made from Stitch’s touring fabric, which looks like leather but is more durable and lightweight, holds its shape better and resists water and stains. The color palette is muted and stylish, in retro automotive tones.

I used it in both dusty and damp conditions. Even though the bag is mostly white, it wiped right off and stayed looking like new. Stitch calls the fabric water and stain resistant, not waterproof.

Weight, straps and stand

The MIY SL2 weighs 99 ounces (about 6.2 pounds) fully built, or 88 ounces without the strap. That’s lightweight, but what you load into it matters more, so take only what you need for the round.

The double strap has a hip pad that spreads the weight nicely and goes on and off easily. The stand legs deploy easily and hold the bag at a mid angle on the fairway, and the bag also stands straight up without them. It rode nicely on both power and push carts.

Should you buy it?

Yes, if you want a lightweight, premium-looking stand bag that’s yours alone. The Stitch MIY SL2 Golf Bag looks, feels and acts like a top-shelf bag, it’s comfortable to carry, and you won’t see many others set up like yours.

Skip it if you like a 14-way top for organizing your clubs, or if you carry every round and want the lightest bag you can get. The 4-way top is simpler, and 99 ounces isn’t the lightest.
