I aquired distances with the TecTecTec KLYR Laser Rangefinder over 7 rounds of golf.  TecTecTec has come a long ways from their low cost basic rangefinder roots to their high end/high quality new laser rangefinder.  The new KLYR rangefinder might be one of the most compact lasers you can buy, but is has all the features of a much “bigger” laser rangefinder.  I’m impressed with every aspect of the new TecTecTec KLYR laser rangefinder.

This is our definitive TecTecTec KLYR Laser Rangefinder Review.

Size does matter…There is a debate however between rangefinder owners about size and weight.  Which is better, big and heavy or small and light?  It depends on your usage, preference and stability.  If you are walking with lightweight carry bag and have a steady hand, you are probably going light and compact.  If you are riding in a cart and have a shaky hand, then large and heavy might be your preference.  While TecTecTec KLYR certainly fits the first category, they have some big features in this small package.

The obvious starting point with the TecTecTec KLYR Laser Rangefinder is the size; it is tiny. It fits in the palm of your hand easily.  You can almost wrap you hand all the way around this laser.  However it doesn’t feel like a toy, instead it has a nice high quality feel and a good ergonomic shape.  The buttons are well placed so that it feel very normal while using it on the course.

The TecTecTec KLYR Laser Rangefinder has everything a bigger laser has and then some.  The name suggests the optics might be clear.  I am super impressed by how crystal clear the view is through this 6x magnification lens.  The distances are displayed in a very easy to read LCD pop up that includes distance and slope. (if you have that feature turned on)  The slope feature is very easy to turn on and off with the slider switch on the side of the laser.  It is also very obvious with the color revealed if you have the slope on or off for competition.

The TecTecTec KLYR Laser Rangefinder comes in a nice “hard” case which is easy to use on the course.  The other really great feature is the magnetic side of the unit which works perfectly on the roof support of a power cart.  The unit is so compact that it comes with a belt clip that you can wear it too.  It is even small enough that you can put it in your pocket if you don’t mind.

The main concern with the TecTecTec KLYR Laser Rangefinder is hitting the target with slight shaky hands because the unit is so small.  I don’t think I ever missed because of the Target Vibration lock which assures you when you hit the flag instead of the trees behind.  I found it really easy to use and lock onto a target without thinking about the smaller/lighter body of this rangefinder.  That speaks to the quality of the optics and lasers which I found to be clear, accurate and fast.  It might be small, but it packs all the features of a big unit into it.

Summary

The TecTecTec KLYR Laser Rangefinder is one quality unit even though it is much smaller than others.  It comes in 5 different colors which might be nice for matching your bag or being bright and obvious on the roof arm of the power cart.  The optics are crystal clear, the calculations are fast and it can be used easily by the minimalist walker or the “bring the kitchen sink” power cart golfer.  TecTecTec has really stepped up their game with this high quality, functional and good looking unit.  If you are in the market for a rangefinder, this small package has big features.
