The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart carried my bag for 4 rounds this spring. It is the most compact push cart I’ve used.  Yet it has really big features while folding flat.  It is an engineering accomplishment to make something big and stable while unfolded, yet compact and flat while folded.  It is functional from trunk to fairway.

This is the my definitive review of the BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart for 2024.

Blade Flat Fold

There are 3 folding styles for push carts: fold down into itself, twist and fold into a cube, and flat fold.  Flat fold takes the most engineering genius.  I am impressed with BIG MAX’s Flat Fold brilliance in the Blade Trio Push Cart.   The size and style of your trunk may have the greatest influence on what type of fold you prefer.  I have found the flat fold the easiest folded cart for any “trunk”.  My MINI Countryman has a hatch, my Jeep Gladiator has a truck bed and T_Fity has a Dodge Challenger trunk.  The flat fold fits in all of them better than most of the cube folded carts.

Fold/Unfold

The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart has a two lever fold/unfold motion.  It is unique as you push/pull on parts, the wheels twist and pivot into itself for a very flat folded position.  The reverse action unfolds it and it becomes a compact yet fully functioning push cart.  When folding the cart be careful not to pinch your finger under the metal bag holding loop.  The parts comes close together and if your finger is in the way it kind of gets pinched.  However you quickly learn this and keep it out of the way on all the subsequent folds/unfolds.  It takes 2 times to learn the fold/unfold pull points.  There is almost no learning curve to take this cart from the trunk to the course.  That can’t be said about every folding cart.

Stability

The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart is a compact and lightweight 3-wheel push cart.  However this cart is really stable on the course.  I didn’t find myself holding on to it tightly so that it wouldn’t fall over.  The weight is distributed evenly.  The only time I had a balance issue was when I didn’t have my bag on the cart and the console was full of accessories.  Otherwise this cart pushes like a champ and rolls down the fairway easily and stably taking on the humps and bumps of the golf course. The fixed front wheel makes it easy to keep the cart tracking.  That little handle down pressure to make a turn feels very natural when using a push cart.

XL Console

The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart has and XL console or glove box.  It is a big covered mesh basket.  You can put a rangefinder, water bottle, phone, wallet, keys, tees, golf balls, divot tool and then some with space left over.  The cover has a nice clip for holding the score card, the is a golf pencil slot that is one of the best I’ve seen as well as 4 tee holes.  The magnet holding the cover is strong, but no too strong making it easy to get in and out of the XL console.

Accessories

The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart comes without any accessories.  I found this a little disappointing since I use a cup holder all the time on my push cart.  I know that BIG MAX isn’t alone on this shift, many of the carts I have reviewed have stopped including accessories.  If you want a cup holder, umbrella tube, cooler bag, phone holder or laser rangefinder bag; you can find them all on BIG MAX’s website for purchase so you get what you want and need vs whatever the company decides to throw it in.  The cart has the quick clamp slots on the console ready for the umbrella holder and phone holder and the quick lock beverage holder on each side of the handle.  If you have any previous accessories from BIG MAX or other cart companies, they might work on this cart too.  The BIG MAX Dri Lite Hybrid Plus Bag is a perfect complementary accessory too.  (review here)

Bag Straps

The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart uses 2 bungee straps to secure the bag to the cart.  The upper one has an adjustable length hook to hold the top in place with pivoting wings where the bag sits against the cart, while the lower one is a big stretchy loop.  This worked great with the BIG MAX Dri Lite Hybrid Plus Bag, but other brands of bags rode nicely too.  I firmly believe in straps to hold the bag to the cart as the bumps and humps of a course can throw the bag off or askew.  I hate readjusting my bag multiple times during a round.  I never had to do that with the BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart.

The Brake

The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart has a single foot push brake lever.  It inserts a pin into the wheel spokes for stopping the cart.  It isn’t tight, but has some give both ways so that you have a little space and wiggle if you forget to disengage the brake when you start pushing.  Since the brake only locks one rear wheel the cart can spin a little on steep hills.  I never worried about it running away, but it might not stay in the same position you left it.  The foot pedal also requires a little body movement to stretch your foot to reach it every time you want to use it.  I actually found myself just parking the cart against things or leaving the brake off on flat surfaces.  It works adequately to keeping your cart where you left it.

Summary

The BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart is the most compact push cart with big features and flat fold.  I’m impressed by the engineering of this cart open or folded.  It is easy to push, very stable on the course and has a huge console.  The flat fold means no matter what size of trunk your car has, you should be able to fit a bag of clubs and this cart in it.  It comes in 5 different color options so you can pick one that fits your style an matches your bag.  I’ve been impressed by BIG MAX’s commitment to innovation and quality.  The Blade Trio Push Cart is a testament to that.  If you want something compact, stable, functional and flat folding, the BIG MAX Blade Trio Push Cart is just what you need.
