Wilson Dynapower Irons Review

I played the Wilson Dynapower Irons for 4 rounds of golf.  I also tested them on the range and in the Office by Carl’s Place DIY Simulators.

The combination of on course testing and FlightScope numbers proved they are the most powerful irons I’ve hit this year.   It wasn’t just the length that impressed me, but how straight and accurate they are.

This is my Wilson Dynapower Irons Review.

How far do you hit your 7-iron?  This is a pretty common question.  You have to answer it at a fitting.  You’ll probably get asked with when playing with strangers.  It might just be a topic over a cold beverage as guys try to size up their game.  While there shouldn’t be any embarrassment saying I hit my 7-iron 130 yards or 150 or 110.  The trust is as we age we often lose some distance over the years or we simply might want to be able to boast about how far we hit our irons.  If you want to be longest irons player in your group, without hitting the gym for endless hours, Wilson Dynapower Irons are the longest irons for the year.  They are 1 1/2 to 2 clubs longer on average.  So saying your hit your 7-iron 180 isn’t out of the question with Dynapower.

The Wilson Dynapower Irons were first introduced in 1956.  They were revolutionary at the time and in 2023, they are revolutionary again.  The Dynapwr legend grows as they used A.I. Technology to design a dynamic face which is super hot.  The ball just jumps of the face. The Power Holes 3.0 or slots on the sole create a huge sweet spot, especially towards the toe, meaning you get consistent speed even if you miss the center.

The Wilson Dynapower Irons launch very high for the lower lofts because of the low CG and High MOI.  This combination means they are very easy to launch up in the air, reduce spin to keep them from ballooning.  They have high long distance since all the weight of the club lifts them off the ground.  It is amazing watching a lower lofted iron go so high and yet carry so far.  Dynapwr!

The main talking of the Wilson Dynapower Irons is their length, but they are very playable because of how straight they hit the ball.  Once you get your distance figured out with each club, then it is point and shoot.  They go so straight and hold their line from start to finish.  High launch, soft landing, and straight is a combo many golfers can benefit from.  These are the perfect club for a mid-handicap golfer looking to improve their iron play with distance and accuracy.  They might not have all the feels of forged irons or all the creativity of players irons, but straight easy distance is good for someone struggling with their irons.

The Wilson Dynapower Irons have a muted feel that is better than expected.  They aren’t Staff Blades feel, but pleasantly soft  for most of the face.  They Power Holes 3.0, the low CG, the Cavity back design all aid in very solid and muted feel at impact.  When the ball is struck cleanly, there is very minimal vibration which mean a super soft feel as the ball pops off the face.  I call it effortless feel since you don’t even have to fee like you are swinging hard and the ball pops up and goes. While there is some offset it is hidden nicely with a thin-ish top line so that these look pretty good from every angle.

Taking the Wilson Dynapower Irons to the course for the first time was certainly eye opening.  I had heard they were long, but until you see the ball fly the green on a nice easy swing, you can’t comprehend how long these irons are.  But after a few holes, you start picking out a “shorter” club and start attacking flags.   These are paired with KBS MAX ultralight steel shafts which mean they are easier to swing faster, but still have a D2 swingweight so they feel normal.

The Wilson Dynapower Irons come stock 5-iron — Gap Wedge.  This makes sense for most golfers since they are plenty long, you don’t really need a 4-iron, but are better served with a GW.  I’d even consider ordering a SW too for filling yardages at that end of the bag.  I still play my regular wedge set 50* , 54* and 58* and everything worked together seamlessly, even though typically I would drop the 50* if the set has a GW.

Summary

The Wilson Dynapower Irons are LONG.  Wilson created the longest irons for 2023 by bringing back a legendary name.  The new technology created a very long iron, but yet one that is forgiving, consistent and very easy to hit.  Not everyone needs more iron length, but if you want to brag, if you want to impress, if you want to hit iron shots high and long, you won’t find an easier to hit distance iron.  They look pretty good and feel decent too.  Your scores might even get better too with some added distance and straight soft landing shots.  I’m impressed by how easy to hit they are, how long they are and how straight they go. You want to talk power? Dynapower irons are the longest irons of 2023.
