The New Level 480-TC Irons went into the bag for 5 rounds this spring.  I’ve been impressed with these irons which helped me hit a whole bunch of birdies. I also tested them on the range and in the Office by Carl’s Place DIY Simulators.  The combination of on-course testing and FlightScope numbers proved that New Level created a high launch, high forgiveness and high control forged iron for 2024.

This is the definitive New Level 480-TC Irons Review for 2024.

High Launch

The focal point of the New Level 480-TC Irons is the cavity weight.  Your eyes are just drawn to it at first glance because it really is the engine of these irons.  The adjustable weight port is set right below the sweet spot creating low CG which aides launch.  The focused weight makes these one of the easiest launching irons you can play.  I paired mine with DG S300 shafts which keep this high launch to a fairly flat flight.  Depending on your needs, you could get a high launching shaft if you need more height in your irons play, or stick a lower launching shaft to get quick launch, but flatter down range flight.

High Forgiveness

Forgiveness remains the secret to good golf, even when we want our clubs to look like butter knives.  The New Level 480-TC Irons offer a ton of forgiveness while making it look really nice.  The deep perimeter weighting really helps the ball go up and straight.  The big sole body and weight port really drive the launch, but the remaining mass spread around the edges helps make sure that the ball doesn’t wander off its intended line.  These are a players cavity back irons.  They look sleek and compact at address, but still offer whole bunch of forgiveness perfect for the low to mid handicap golfer.

High Control

The New Level 480-TC Irons are high launch, high forgiveness but also have high control and by that I mean you can make them do what you want within those parameters.  You can make the ball work towards the pin, fight the wind, or even bend it around a tree, but it is still going to have fairly high launch and not going to work too much.  If you try to hit a massive cut or slinger; it probably won’t be as extreme as you were hoping, but that is good when you are trying to keep the ball on the course.  Ideal is small controllable movement which is exactly what these irons offer.  I’m impressed with the ability to attack pins without fear of “over cooking” it off the green.

Results

The New Level 480-TC Irons gave me a ton of scoring opportunities on the green. I hit more greens in regulation and found myself with shorter first putts.  I had a stretch with a whole bunch of birdies thanks to these irons.  The long irons are easy to hit because they have high launch.  The mid irons really were a balance of launch and control which means they were easy to hit, but really became scoring clubs as much as the short irons.  The irons/PW were all about control.  They hit shots that really stuck where they landed.  I found the spin on the clubs to be fairly high which keeps the ball close to where it lands which also makes for better control and scoring opportunities.

Summary

New Level has made a names for themselves with impressive designs, great performance and DTC pricing.  These are some copy-cat design, but an original model by New Level which launches the ball high, offers lots of forgiveness and yet can be controlled to attack pins from any lie or distance.  I’m impressed with the feel too as the forged head is soft and the weighting is placed perfectly under the sweet spot.  You can get them made with numerous shaft options and you are really going to be impressed by these New Level 480-TC Irons.  If you need lower launch and even more control, check out the 480-MC option or even more forgiveness the 480-DB options.  These however are the perfect blend of launch, forgiveness and control in a great looking and feeling combo.
